Department News – Lacey Township Police Department – Sergeant Promotion – November 16, 2020
The above photos depict Lacey Township Police Officer Michael Verwey being promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant, during the November 12, 2020 Township Meeting. The Lacey Township Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of 16-year Veteran Police Officer Michael Verwey. On the evening of Thursday, November 12th, 2020, during the Township meeting, Officer Michael Verwey was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Michael Verwey is a resident of Lacey Township where he resides with his wife and children. Sergeant Verwey graduated from Donovan Catholic High School and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Sergeant Verwey was hired by the Lacey Township Police Department in 2013 after working prior for both the Medford and Burlington City Police Departments. Sergeant Verwey has been assigned to the Patrol Division for the past seven (7) years and has received various commendations throughout his career. He holds the position of Field Training Officer (FTO), is a member for the Ocean County Regional SWAT team, and a member of the Fatal Accident Support Team. Township News – Lacey Township Police/Lacey Township Emergency Services – No Shave November Keep it Local 2020
The above photo depicts (in no particular order) members from the Lacey Township Police Department and the Lanoka Harbor EMS, during the 2020 No Shave November Keep it Local “Before Photo.” Each November, since 2016, the members of the Lacey Township Police Department have broken protocol for a good cause. We have, in a joint effort with members of our Township's Emergency Services, participated in the national "No-Shave November" campaign. During our four years, we have successfully raised over $21,000. These funds were disseminated through various cancer charities including, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as directed by the No-Shave November campaign. This year, the members of the Lacey Township Police Department will once again be breaking protocol in the No Shave way, to help one of our own community leaders who has recently passed away. All of our donations raised this year will be forwarded to the family of Chief John Szafranski III of the Lanoka Harbor Volunteer Fire Company. Chief Szafranski was a dedicated No-Shave participant who was privately fighting his own courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer for the past several years. News Release-Lacey Township Police Department-December 16, 2019
On Monday, December 16, 2019 at 8:02 p.m., the Lacey Township Police Department responded to the Walmart, 580 Route 9 N, Lanoka Harbor, to investigate a suspicious incident involving an unspecified bomb threat. As a precaution, the manager of the store made the determination to evacuate the building while the incident remained under investigation. At approximately 11:23 p.m., the store was re-opened to the public after it was determined to be safe. The Lacey Township Police Department was assisted by various K-9 units from throughout Ocean County, as well as patrol officers from Berkeley Township. Additionally, the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department and the Lanoka Harbor First Aid Squad responded to the scene as a precaution. There is no active threat to the public. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – December 6th through December 12th, 2019
DWI- On Friday, December 6, 2019, at 3:10 p.m., dispatch received a phone call concerning an intoxicated driver. Officers Michael Hutman and Anthony Ravallo were able to locate the vehicle on Adolphus Street. The driver, Randy Miles, 52, was ultimately arrested and transported to headquarters. Prior to being released, Myles was charged with DWI and Reckless Driving. Burglary- On Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 9:50 p.m., Officer Randolph Plis was dispatched to a Brookdale Park Drive residence in reference to a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that someone had entered her vehicle and stole an amount of cash and a debit card. The vehicle was parked in the victim's driveway at the time of the theft. Burglary- On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 8:00 a.m., Officer John Simonson was dispatched to a Brightwood Drive residence after the homeowner reported a theft. The victim stated that someone entered his vehicle that was parked in the driveway stealing a cell phone and a credit card. The theft is valued at $100. Arrest- On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 8:45 a.m., Officer Michael Hein arrested Amy Haas, 45. Haas was arrested at the Dollar General in connection with an outstanding [...]
Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – November 29th through December 5th, 2019
CDS Arrest- On Friday, November 29, 2019, at 12:49 p.m., Officers Michael Hein, Darrell Nick, and Dan Ricciardella responded to the parking lot of Walmart after a caller reported possible drug activity. As officers arrived they made contact with David Michaelson of Matawan and Robbiejo Ewan of Rahway. While speaking with the two, officers noticed drug paraphernalia on the floor of the vehicle. Both suspects were placed under arrest and a further search revealed an amount of heroin and additional paraphernalia. Both suspects were charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Michaelson was also issued a summons for Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. Both were released on their own recognizance in accordance with bail reform. Juvenile Delinquency- On Friday, November 29, 2019, at 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a wooded area behind Heritage Apartments for a juvenile problem. Officers located three juvenile males, all from Lacey, who appeared to be lighting fires in the area. Each was charged with Criminal Mischief and released to their respective parent.
