Chief Paul Sullivan Jr. #77
Chief Sullivan was born and raised in Lacey Township, and graduated from the Lacey Township High School in 1998.
After high school, Paul attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Seton Hall University. He continued his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, receiving a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
Paul was hired as a police officer with the Lacey Township Police Department in August of 2001. He attended class #77 of the Ocean County Police Academy, and achieved the high firearms award for his academy class. He spent the first 12 years of his career in the patrol division, during which time he served for five years as a member of the Ocean County Regional Swat Team. He has been heavily involved in training within the agency and holds various instructor certifications related to firearms. Paul is certified in Methods of Instruction, as a field training officer, and an EMT for 18 years.
Paul was promoted to the position of Patrol Sergeant in March of 2014, then to Police Lieutenant in July of 2016. In his tenure as Police Lieutenant, he served in both the patrol and administrative divisions of the agency. Paul was promoted to Police Captain in November of 2022, where he served as the Captain of Operations for the agency; overseeing the Professional Standards and Internal Affairs divisions of the organizations Paul was promoted to Chief of Police in November of 2025, and also serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Township of Lacey.
Captain Samuel Della Sala #82
Captain Della Sala grew up in Lacey Township and graduated from the Lacey Township High School in 2000. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years active duty in the Infantry and Security Forces, achieving the rank of Sergeant. For his time in service, he was awarded numerous medals, awards, and certificates of commendation, including the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal which is New Jersey’s Highest Military Award. After returning from military service he worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, completing training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.
In 2005, Captain Della Sala began his career with the Lacey Township Police Department. Soon after he became a member of the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team where he served for 9 years. In 2013 he was assigned as a Detective where he found a passion for investigations, working jointly with agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, New Jersey State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In 2017 he was assigned to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Narcotics Strike Force, where his efforts were focused on drug distribution. Upon his return, he was assigned to the Lacey Township Drug Enforcement Unit / Special Enforcement Team.
Over the years Captain Della Sala has accrued an extensive training resume related to Firearms, Tactical Response, and Investigations which includes Firearms Instructor, Simunitions Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, A.L.I.C.E. Instructor, Methods of Instruction, Top Gun Training, Undercover Narcotics Investigative Training, DELTA-Narcotics Unit Commander’s Course, and Internal Affairs Investigations.
As a supervisor his duties and responsibilities have included, Investigative Division Commander, Unit Commander of the Drug Enforcement Unit, Patrol Supervisor, Detective Bureau Supervisor, Internal Affairs Coordinator, Property and Evidence Supervisor, Animal Cruelty (HLEO) Investigations Supervisor, and Assistant Firearms Training Coordinator.
Captain Della Sala is a graduate of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy and has completed the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association-Executive Leadership Institute. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he continues to pursue a Master’s Degree.
Captain Della Sala serves as the Captain of Operations for the Lacey Township Police Department, as well as the Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator for Lacey Township.
Lieutenant John McKee #81
John was born and raised in Leonia, New Jersey. John attended Stockton University, where he majored in business administration. John moved to Lacey Township on October 31, 2000.
On March 31, 2003, John was hired by the Lacey Township Police Department. On October 3, 2003, he graduated from the Burlington Township Police Academy, where he received the Academic Achievement Award for obtaining a class ranking of #1 in academics, the Director’s Achievement Award for obtaining an overall class ranking of #3 and the Distinguished Professionalism Award, which was voted on by his fellow classmates.
In 2019, John, along with 967 Sergeant’s candidates, took the New Jersey Civil Service Sergeant’s exam. John scored #1 in the Lacey Township Police Department and #1 in the State of New Jersey.
In 2021, John took the New Jersey Civil Service Lieutenant’s exam. John scored #1 in the Lacey Township Police Department and #7 in the State of New Jersey.
John is the Lacey Township Police Department Patrol Division Commander. John oversees 4 Patrol Squads, which include 4 Sergeants and 28 Officers. John oversees the Communications Bureau, which includes 8 Public Safety Communicators. John is the Fatal Accident Support Team Coordinator, SWAT Coordinator, Traffic Enforcement Coordinator and Domestic Violence Liaison.
Lieutenant Robert Flynn #78
Lieutenant Flynn was born and raised in Ocean County and has lived in Lacey Township for the past 26 years. He earned an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army Reserves in 2000, after 8 years of service. Lt. Flynn earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Crime, Law, and Justice at The Pennsylvania State University in 1997 and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Training & Development from Seton Hall University in 2009. He Graduated from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy in 2023.
Lt. Flynn was hired by the Lacey Township Police Department in 2001 and has served in many roles over the past 21 years, including the Patrol, Support & Special Services, Operations, Training & Services, and Administration Divisions. He currently serves as the Administration Division Commander, where his focus is on Professional Standards and Training. He is also responsible for the department’s Policies and Procedures, Diversity and Recruitment, Firearms program, and many other administrative functions.
Throughout his career Lt. Flynn has assembled an impressive resume of a variety of specialty training to include being an operator on the county’s regional SWAT team, a crash investigator and reconstructionist for the county Fatal Accident Team, and a Drug Recognition Expert for the county. He is one of only a handful of Police Officers in the State of New Jersey to have earned accreditation as a crash reconstructionist by ACTAR (Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction). In 2016 he was among the first group of police officers in New Jersey to earn the Traffic Safety Specialist I certification through the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety and KEAN University. He is a multi-year rider in the Police Unity Tour, and has been heavily involved in many other department functions to include the COP card program, DWI Checkpoints, Honor Guard, Junior Police Academy, EMT, School Resource Officer, Firearms Instructor, Child Passenger Seat Technician, Field Training Officer, CED Coordinator, ATV operator, and Alive @ 25 and Defensive Driving Instructors.

Lt Darrell Nick #80
Lt. Darrell Nick was born in Passaic, New Jersey, but primarily grew up in Lacey Township, and resided in Lacey Township for 23 years. He graduated from Lacey Township High School in 1997. Lt. Nick then attended Monmouth University, where he majored in Business Management, and graduated in 2001. He also played football at Monmouth University, starting all four years, and receiving several honors, including Academic All American his Senior year. On March 31 st , 2003, Lt. Nick was hired by the Lacey Township Police Department, where attended the Burlington County Police Academy. Lt. Nick was assigned to the Patrol Division, and remained in that assignment for 17 years. During his time in Patrol, Lt. Nick served as a crash investigator for the Lacey Township Fatal Accident Team and was also a Field Training Officer, training 9 current Lacey Township Police Department Officers. He is also a certified Child Passenger Seat Technician, and currently in charge of the program.
In February of 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he supervised a patrol squad. In February of 2025, Darrell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he oversees command of the Support Services Division. Lt. Nick graduated from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy in April of 2024.
His responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Crossing Guards, Special Officers, Department Technology, including Body Camera Coordinator, Fleet Management, and Records Supervisor. Darrell is also the 9-1-1 Coordinator. Lt Nick has always served the township with Integrity, and is proud of the way he has served the Lacey Township Citizens with the utmost Professionalism.
