Car Burglary & Theft – On Thursday, March 14, 2013, a resident of Kenney Street in the southern Pines section of Forked River reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered sometime between 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 and 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013. Various items were stolen from the vehicle, including: cash, prescription medications, a silver and black backpack, and HVAC textbooks with a total value in excess of $600.
Unfortunately, burglaries of unlocked vehicles are too common of an occurrence and tend to increase in frequency as the weather gets warmer. Residents are asked to lock their vehicles when parked to protect their property. In most cases, the residents report having left their vehicles unlocked for years with no problems. Although very random with respect to location and frequency, the incidents do generally occur during the overnight hours throughout the entire year and are committed by offenders of all ages.
