DUI with Accident (Arrest) – On Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 9:20 p.m., Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas and Officer Charles May responded to the 800 block of Sunrise Boulevard in Forked River for a report of a vehicle that struck and damaged a utility pole. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 48-year-old Joseph Y. Devlin of Forepeak Drive in Forked River, for DUI. Joseph Devlin was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and issued traffic summonses for DUI, Refusal to Submit to Breath Testing, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Maintain Lane. The road had to be closed for several hours while the utility pole was replaced and the wires were removed from the roadway. Power to the area was also out for several hours. No injuries were reported. The vehicle Joseph Devin was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

Burglary of a Vehicle, Theft, and Drug Possession Arrest (Arrest) – On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 7:03 p.m., Officer Michael Verwey responded to the 900 block of Center Street in Forked River for a report of theft. The complainant reported that he suspected his sister, identified as 26-year-old Rema Murrar, stole money from him. The complainant also provided Officer Verwey with additional items that he believed his sister stole, which included a wallet belonging to a resident on the 800 block of Devon Street in Forked River, and two GPS units. During the continuing investigation, officers located a wax fold containing Heroin, several empty wax folds, several hypodermic syringes, various items of drug paraphernalia, as well as a device utilized to defraud the administration of a drug test which were all attributed to Rema Murrar. Rema Murrar was arrested and transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged with one count of Burglary and Theft (from a motor vehicle), Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, Possession of a Device utilized to Defraud a Drug Test, and two counts of Possession of Stolen Property.

Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 12:27 a.m., Officer Michael Verwey was on patrol when he observed a suspicious vehicle containing two occupants backed into the driveway of a residence located on the 900 block of Elwood Street in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the two occupants, identified as 18-year-old Caitlin Hulse of Jaehnel Parkway in Point Pleasant, NJ, and 18-year-old Kyle Offenburger of Elwood Street in Forked River for Possession of CDS. They were transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged on criminal summonses with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In addition, Caitlin Hulse received a traffic summons for CDS in a Motor vehicle.

DUI (Arrest) – On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 9:39 p.m., Officer John D. Simonson responded to Hemlock Drive in Lanoka Harbor for a suspicious vehicle parked at a vacant residence. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 46-year-old Douglas Laperry of Cedar Drive in Lanoka Harbor, for DUI. Douglas Laperry was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and issued traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, and Driving While Suspended. The vehicle he was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 7:43 p.m., Officer Anthony Sarno conducted a traffic stop on Stony Point Drive near Lake Barnegat Drive North in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 33-year-old Randall S. Nielsen of Station Drive in Forked River for Possession of Heroin. Sixteen wax folds containing Heroin, along with several empty wax folds and several Hypodermic Syringes, were located within the vehicle. Randall Nielsen was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In addition, he received traffic summonses for Operating an Unregistered Vehicle and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle.

Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 5:40 p.m., Officer Brian Holt responded to the Wawa, located at 444 Route 9 South in Forked River, for a report of a male subject inside a vehicle utilizing CDS. A description of the vehicle was provided. Investigation at the scene led to the discovery of 2 empty wax folds of Heroin and one full wax fold of Heroin in the vehicle. In addition, a hypodermic syringe was discovered. The driver, 27-year-old Dennis E. Cusack of Jane Drive in Manahawkin, NJ, was arrested for Possession of CDS. Dennis Cusack was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. In addition, he received a traffic summons for CDS in a Motor Vehicle.

DUI with Traffic Accident (Arrest) – On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 11:16 a.m., Officers Daniel Ricciardella and Evan Androcy responded to Lacey Road and Newark Avenue in Forked River for a traffic accident. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of one of the drivers, identified as 35-year-old Leah Lamendola of Laurel Boulevard in Lanoka Harbor, for DUI. She was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged on traffic summonses with DUI, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, and Failure to Exhibit Valid Insurance Card. The vehicle she was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law. The driver and passenger in the second vehicle were transported to Southern Ocean County Hospital for minor injuries.

Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Monday, October 12, 2015, at 2:21 p.m., Officer Daniel Ricciardella and Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to the Walmart, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a female shoplifter in custody. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 39-year-old Marilyn Caro of West Maryland Avenue in Somers Point, NJ, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $32.18. Further investigation led to her being charged with shoplifting merchandise valued at $49.92 from Walmart on October 9, 2015, as well. Marilyn was transported to police headquarters, processed, and charged on a criminal summons with two counts of Shoplifting.

Theft from a Vehicle – On Friday, October 9, 2015, at 6:55 p.m., Officer Robert Duffy responded to the 1800 block of Ridge Road in Forked River for a report of theft from a vehicle. The complainant reported that between 11:30 p.m. on October 8, 2015 and 7:00 a.m. on October 9, 2015, an unknown person or persons entered his unlocked vehicle and stole $25 in cash from the glove-box. The vehicle was parked in the street in front of the residence at the time of the incident.

Criminal Mischief – On Friday, October 9, 2015, at 10:43 a.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to the 200 block of Lane Place in Forked River for a report of criminal mischief. The complainant reported that between 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 and 10:40 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015, an unknown person or persons broke two exterior lights of his neighbor’s residence. Investigation indicated that rocks were thrown at the lights causing them to break. The damage is estimated at $50.

Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 5:10 p.m., Officer Kymberly Gudgeon and Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas responded to Kohl’s, located at 304 Route 9 North in Forked River, for a report of a female shoplifter in custody. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 40-year-old Laurie A. Carmer of Tuscarora Avenue in Barnegat, NJ, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $300. Laurie Carmer was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged on a criminal summons with Shoplifting.

Warrant Arrest – On Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 3:42 p.m., Officer Jason Lee was conducting an ongoing investigation on the 1300 block of Lee Way in Forked River. During his investigation he learned that 26-year-old Thomas W. Staunton had an outstanding Eagleswood Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $379. Thomas Stuanton was arrested and transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters. Thomas Staunton was processed and then released on his own recognizance by the Eagleswood Township Municipal Court Clerk pending a new court date.

Burglary and Theft – On Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 3:42 p.m., Officer Jason Lee responded to the 1300 block of Lee Way in Forked River for a report of theft. The complainant reported that between Thursday, October 1, 2015 and Tuesday, October 6, 2015, an unknown person or persons entered his residence and stole $1,400 in jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry and the incident is under investigation.

Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 10:18 p.m., Officers Anthony Sarno and John McKee responded to the Walmart, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of a female shoplifter in custody. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 24-year-old Emily Lewinski of Tudor Avenue in Pine Beach, NJ, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $168. Emily Lewinski was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, processed, and charged on a criminal summons with Shoplifting.

Theft – On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 8:20 a.m., Officer Keith Pearce responded to the 300 block of Constitution Drive in Forked River for a report of theft. The complainant reported that between Saturday, October 3, 3015, and Monday, October 5, 2015, two gold necklaces valued at a total of $600 were stolen from his residence. No signs of forced entry could be located.
