DUI (Arrest) – On Monday, January 20, 2014, at 10:54 p.m., Officer Evan Androcy conducted a traffic stop on Route 9 South near Station Drive, in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 31-year-old Stanley N. Zalewski, of Imperato Court in Toms River for DUI. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. Stanley N. Zalewski was later released after receiving traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Exhibit both insurance and registration documents. The vehicle Stanley N. Zalewski was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

Attempted Theft from a Vehicle – On Sunday, January 20, 2014, at 8:30 p.m., Officer George Resetar responded to the 400 block of Hickory Lane in Forked River for an attempted theft from a car. The complainant reported that he was inside his residence and observed his exterior motion sensor light come on. When he looked outside, he observed the driver’s side door of his vehicle open and a male subject inside. He exited the residence and confronted the white male subject from a distance. The unidentified subject walked away and entered a vehicle parked nearby in the street then drove away. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle. The incident was reported to the police department approximately 45 minutes after the subject departed the area. No other vehicles were reported to have been entered. The suspect had a full, long, light-colored goatee and a stock build. He was dressed in blue pajama pants, (possibly “New York Giants” sweatpants), and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt. The vehicle is described as a gold or tan sedan with rain guards on the windows. The complainant stated that he believes the first three letters of the New Jersey license plate are S-A-Y.

Improper Business Practice (Ordinance Violation) – Officer Michael Verwey charged 43-year-old Quan Jing of the Green Spa, 445 Lacey Road, Forked River, with a violation of Lacey Township Ordinance 234-11. The violation came as a result of Officer Verwey observing various male subjects enter the establishment on Monday, January 20, 2014, for approximately 20 to 30 minute durations during the evening hours. A brief investigation revealed the business was in violation of the local ordinance. The ordinance requires that a massage parlor not associated with a doctor’s office or physical therapist only provide same gender massages. Quan Jing, new owner/operator, was served the summons and will be required to appear in Lacey Township Municipal Court.

DUI (Arrest) – On Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 4:09 p.m., Officer Scott Keefe conducted a traffic stop on Laurel Boulevard in Lanoka Harbor. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 21-year-old Joseph Bellettiere of Cedar Drive in Lanoka Harbor for DUI. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released after receiving traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Wear Seatbelt. The vehicle was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 1:34 p.m., Officers Michael Eden and Keith Pearce responded to the area of Foch Avenue and Lee Way for suspicious activity. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 25-year-old Thomas Staunton, Lee Way, in Forked River, for Possession of heroin. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. He was later released after receiving a criminal summons for possession of heroin.

Warrant (Arrest) – On Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 5:25 p.m., Officer Evan Androcy responded to the 1000 block of Orlando Drive in Forked River to serve an arrest warrant. The individual named on the warrant, 37-year-old Daniel J. Stellato, was arrested on a Sussex County no bail child support warrant. Daniel J. Stellato was later turned over to the custody of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department.

Burglary and Theft (Residence) – On Friday, January 17, 2014, at 10:49 a.m., Officer Daniel Ricciardella responded to a vacant residence being renovated on Bay Way in Lanoka Harbor for a burglary. The complainant reported that during the overnight hours of January 16, 2014, into January 17, 2014, an unknown person forced entry into the residence and stole various tools and equipment. The total value of the stolen property is unknown at this time.

Theft from a Residence – On Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 9:04 p.m., Officer Darrell Nick took a report from the complainant who reported that during the day, an unknown person or persons entered her residence on Dugout Drive, Lanoka Harbor, and stole a laptop computer and a Coach Purse containing $200 in cash. There were no signs of forced entry. The complainant reported a possible suspect known to the complainant.

Shoplifting and Employee Theft (Arrest) – On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 12:06 p.m., Officer Robert Flynn responded to TJ Maxx in the Lacey Mall, 348 Route 9 North, Lanoka Harbor, for a female shoplifter. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 19-year-old Ashley Cavalier, Devon Street, in Forked River, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $75.00. In addition, she was charged with stealing cash and merchandise valued at $150.00 while working as an employee in the store. She was processed and later released after receiving a criminal summons.

Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 1:11 p.m., Officer Daniel Ricciardella responded to the Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a male shoplifter. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 29-year-old Korey James of Dess Street in Toms River for shoplifting merchandise valued at $740. He was processed and later released after receiving a criminal summons for shoplifting.

Burglary and Theft (Residence) – On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 9:16 p.m., Officers Adam Ewart and Darrell Nick responded to the 900 block of Clairmore Avenue in Lanoka Harbor for a burglary. The victim reported that between 6:15 p.m. on January 15, 2014, and 8:40 p.m. on January 15, 2014, an unknown person or persons entered the residence and stole property including, but not limited to, iPods, jewelry, and cash valued over $500. Detective Surtees responded to the scene and is handling the follow-up investigation.

Warrant (Arrest) –On Sunday, January 17, 2014, at 9:35 p.m., Officer Peter Donahue responded to the Bay Harbor Motor Lodge for an unrelated call. While at the scene, an arrest warrant was located for 53-year-old Christopher J. Apostolos of Lanoka Harbor. The warrant was issued by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department in the amount of $2,500. Christopher Apostolos was later turned over to the custody of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

Burglary and Theft (Residence) – On Monday, January 20, 2014, at 12:39 p.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to a residence located on Taylor Lane in Forked River for a reported burglary. The victim reported that between 5:00 p.m. on January 19, 2014, and 12:20 p.m. on January 20, 2014, an unknown person or persons entered his residence and stole approximately $1,500 in cash. There were no signs of forced entry.
