- Burglary of a Business – On Monday, May 13, 2013, at 6:55 a.m., officers responded to the Forked River Pharmacy, 605 Route 9 S, Forked River, for a report of criminal mischief and an attempted burglary of the pharmacy. The incident occurred between the time the pharmacy closed on Sunday, May 12, 2013 and the early morning hours of Monday May 13, 2013. Unknown suspect(s) pried open a rear door at the Forked River Pharmacy but did not gain entry to the main part of the store. Damage is estimated at $500. Nothing appeared to be stolen at the time of the report and Detective Robert Surtees is continuing the investigation.
- Criminal Mischief – On Monday May 13, 2013, a resident of the 300 Block of Devon Street reported criminal mischief to two separate vehicles while the vehicles were parked at the victim’s residence. The victim stated that the two vehicles had been scratched with a key (or similar object) between May 5, 2013 and May 11, 2013. The total damage is estimated to be in excess of $300.
- DUI – On Sunday, May 12, 2013, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Officer Andrew Slota observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart store. Investigation at the scene led to 25-year-old Jeffrey L. Moissinac of Lanoka Harbor being arrested for DUI. He was charged with DUI, DUI Breath Test Refusal, Reckless Driving, and Littering. The vehicle Jeffrey L. Moissinac was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.
- Warrant Arrest – On Sunday, May 12, 2013, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas stopped a vehicle being operated by 33-year-old Kenneth M. Elder, Jr. of Bayville for having an active warrant from Pemberton Borough in the amount of $150.00. K. Elder, Jr. was arrested on the warrant and transported to police headquarters. He posted bail and was released without incident.
- Drug Arrest – On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Officers John McKee and Kym Gudgeon, responded to Route 9 N and Warren Avenue, Lanoka Harbor, to assist the Berkeley Township Police Department who was out with two suspicious male subjects. Investigation at the scene led to 19-year-old Kyle Alvarez of Barnegat being arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. He was later released on a complaint summons. A 15-year-old juvenile male from Brick was also charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and later released.
- Criminal Mischief – On Saturday, May 11, 2013, a resident of the 100 block of Clairmore Avenue in Lanoka Harbor reported criminal mischief to her vehicle and home. The victim reported both front tires had been slashed on her vehicle. The incident occurred between 9 p.m. on May 9, 2013, and 6 a.m. on May 10, 2013. The victim also reported that eggs were thrown at her home as well. There was no permanent damage to the residence. The total damage was $325.
- Car Burglary and Theft – On Friday, May 10, 2013, at 8:11 a.m., Officer Keith Pearce responded to the 1700 block of Lakeside Dr S, Forked River for a report of a car burglary. The complainant stated that sometime between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on May 8, 2013, someone entered their unlocked vehicle that was parked at the residence and stole a cell phone valued at $300.00.
- Suspicious Incident – On Friday, May 10, 2013, at 4 p.m., Officer John Simonson responded to a Llewellyn Parkway address for a suspicious incident. The complainant stated that she received a phone call from a male subject calling from a “private” number on the caller ID. The male subject was calling her “Grandma” and stating that he was her grandson. The male caller told her that he was arrested for drugs. The complainant realized it was not her grandson and believed it might have been a scam.
- Drug Distribution Arrests – On the morning of Friday, May 10, 2013, Lacey Detectives executed two search warrants at 1814 Hawser Drive, Forked River, NJ. The warrants were obtained during an investigation involving the possession and distribution of Oxycodone; a Schedule II, narcotic. During the search of the residence and a vehicle on the property, detectives recovered over 1,300 Oxycodone pills. Additionally, cocaine, marijuana, and $8,000 cash was seized. The street value of the Oxycodone is estimated at $40,000. The target of the investigation, Christopher Franzone, 48, of 1814 Hawser Drive in Forked River, was charged with Possession of Oxycodone and Intent to Distribute more than an Ounce of Oxycodone. Christopher Franzone was also charged with Possession of Stolen Prescription Blanks. Christopher Franzone was charged with failing to notify law enforcement of an address change which is an obligation under the New Jersey Megan’s law requirements. Christopher Franzone was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $150,000 bail. In addition to the charges by Lacey Township detectives, the New Jersey Parole Board was notified and an additional no-bail warrant was issued for offenses that violated Christopher Franzone’s parole conditions. K-9 teams from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the search. The wife of Christopher Franzone, Marie Franzone, 41, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Oxycodone and Possession of Marijuana during the search. She was released on her own recognizance. Jessica Calpin, 18, who is the daughter of Marie Franzone, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Oxycodone and released pending a court appearance. A vehicle, normally operated by Christopher Franzone, was seized as being used to further a criminal offense; specifically the transportation of a controlled substance.
- Burglary of a Vehicle – On May 9, 2013, at 8:40 a.m., a business owner at Route 9 and Second Street in Forked River reported that between the morning hours of 1:50 a.m. and 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, unknown actor(s) smashed the window of a vehicle thereby gaining access to the contents within the vehicle. Over $300 in damage was done to the vehicle and an unknown value of items possibly stolen from the vehicle.
- Theft & Obstructing – On May 8, 2013, at approximately 9:11 a.m., the Lacey Township Police Department received a call from an alert resident who observed two subjects in a silver/grey pickup truck cutting an air conditioning unit from a home on Tiller Drive in Sunrise Beach. The suspects cut the lines of the air conditioning unit from the home and loaded it into the bed of the pickup truck. When the homeowner opened his garage door to check on the suspicious activity, the suspects sped away from the scene. Officer Louis Brignola located the vehicle near the 7-11 on Rt. 9 in Lanoka Harbor. Upon seeing the officers, the two males fled on foot. Sgt. James Tranz pursued 20-year-old John Clifton on foot and apprehended him in the wooded area behind the 7-11 store. The other subject, identified as 18-year-old Casey Sinopoli of Lanoka Harbor, fled through the woods. John Clifton was arrested and transported to police headquarters. The stolen air conditioning unit was found in the bed of the truck. At approximately 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013, two hours after fleeing on foot, Casey Sinopoli of Lanoka Harbor contacted the Lacey Township Police Department and turned himself in. He was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters. Casey Sinopoli was charged with the 3rd Degree Crime of Theft, 4th Degree Crime of Criminal Mischief, and the 4th Degree Crime of Obstructing. Further investigation at police headquarters led to an additional theft charge for an unrelated theft incident that occurred on April 26, 2013 on Sinclair Avenue in Lanoka Harbor. Casey Sinopoli was released from police custody after being processed. John Clifton, 20, was charged with the 3rd Degree Crime of Theft, 4th Degree Crime of Criminal Mischief, and the 4th Degree Crime of Obstructing. John Clifton was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of $10,000 bail on the criminal charges. John Clifton also had four additional active warrants for his arrest as follows: (1) Lacey Township, $750; (2) Beachwood, $500; (3) Beachwood, $250; and Ocean Township (Waretown), $250; totaling $1,750.
- Theft of Cash & Medications – On Tuesday May 7, 2013, a resident of Parkside Drive in Forked River reported the theft of $160.00 in cash from her home as well as two bottles of medication consisting of Morphine and Methadone valued at $50.00 each. There was no forced entry to the residence and the possibility exists that one of the varied guests at the residence may have stolen the items.

- Multiply Warrants/Suspended Driver – At approximately 1:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas performed a random inquiry of a vehicle’s license plate. Upon doing so, it was determined that the vehicle’s owner, Eric Kaboski, age 33 of Forked River, had a suspended driver’s license and numerous traffic warrants. Eric Kaboski’s vehicle was stopped on Rt. 9 near Oyster Creek, and he was arrested on the strength of the following warrants: Lacey Township – $600; Holmdel – $300; and Ocean Township (Waretown) – $250. Eric Kaboski was transported to police headquarters where he released after posting the required bail and receiving a summons for driving while suspended.
- Shoplifter – At 12:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, Officers George Resetar and Andrew Slota responded to Walmart for a shoplifter being detained. Upon their arrival, 32-year-old Tracey Zitzner of Forked River was arrested for shoplifting. She allegedly attempted to conceal merchandise valued at $31.98 on her person. Tracey Zitzner was later processed and released from police headquarters after receiving a criminal summons.
- DUI – At approximately 3:39 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2013, Officers Noah Schaffer and Joseph Soto investigated a motor vehicle accident that originally occurred at the intersection of Lacey Road and Municipal Lane. A 2009 Honda Civic containing two occupants was struck from behind by a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier. The Cavalier fled the accident scene and was followed from the crash site until it pulled into a parking lot on Lacey Road. Further investigation led to the driver of the Cavalier, John Dykhouse, age 50 of Forked River, being arrested. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Following Too Closely, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Injuries, Failure to Report an Accident, Unregistered Vehicle, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, and Consuming Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. The 21-year-old male passenger in the Honda Civic was taken by ambulance to Community Medical Center after complaining of pain. The Chevrolet Cavalier was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.
- Criminal Mischief – Between 5:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013, residents of Georgetown Lane in Lanoka Harbor reported repeated acts of criminal mischief being committed by at least two teenage males. One of the callers stated she heard the sound of objects hitting the residence and when she looked outside, she observed two teenage males with dark clothing running from the area. The teenage subjects were both described as white males. One had a stocky build and the other had a thin build (no further description). The teenage males fled toward Musket Drive. Another resident reported that a large rock was thrown at the front door at his residence causing approximately $200 in damage to the door. The homeowner reported observing a group of juveniles in the area with two of them fitting the description of the juveniles from the other incident. The juveniles were no longer in the area when the matter was reported to the police department.
- Burglary of Home – At 1:22 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013, a resident of Holbrooke Drive within the Seabreeze development in Forked River (Near the GSP) reported a daytime residential burglary. Sometime between the hour-long period of 12:20 p.m. and 1:20 p.m., unknown persons forced their way through the locked front door and committed a theft of cash from within the residence during a brief period the homeowners were not home. The scene has been processed with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU). The matter is under active investigation. - Theft from Waterfront Property – At approximately 9:27 a.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2013, a resident of Terry Avenue, Lanoka Harbor reported a theft. Investigation revealed that between April 28, 2013 at 1800 hours and May 4, 2013 at 0600 hours, unknown actor(s) stole three electrical cords from the property. The cords were located at the dock where boats are moored. The stolen cords included: a 50′ #12 wire red power cord valued at $50; a 100′ #10 wire blue and yellow power cord valued at $120; and a 50′ #14 wire red power cord valued at $20; with a total value of $190.
- DUI – At approximately 1:49 a.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2013, Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas stopped a vehicle being operated by 24-year-old Adam Cumberton of Toms River for speeding. Investigation at the stop led to Adam Cumberton being arrested and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and Failure to Exhibit Documents. The vehicle Adam Cumberton was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.
- Shoplifter – At approximately 10:50 p.m., on Friday, May 3, 2013, Officers George Resetar, Samuel Della Sala, and Andrew Slota responded to area of Walmart for a male shoplifter who fled the store wearing stolen merchandise. While conducting a search, the officers located and arrested 24-year-old Brian Lucy of Lanoka Harbor who was traveling on foot near Laurel Boulevard. Brian Lucy was charged with stealing $67 worth of merchandise which included: 2 pairs of shorts, 3 shirts, and 2 accessory rings. Brian Lucy was processed and released from police headquarters after receiving a criminal summons.
- Burglary of a Home – On Friday, May 3, 2013, Officer Noah Schaffer initiated an investigation concerning a home that was reportedly burglarized on Windsor Place, Forked River. The resident reported that sometime between January 8, 2013 and January 14, 2013, unknown person(s) forced entry into the residence causing approximately $150 in damage. Reported stolen from the residence were several collectible keepsakes valued at over $13,000. This matter remains under investigation.
- Theft from Substation – At approximately 9:09 a.m., on Thursday, May 2, 2013, Officer Paul Sullivan, Jr., responded to the 500 Block of Rt. 9, concerning a theft from the Verizon Cellular substation. Two copper grounding bars were reported stolen from the cell tower substation. Investigation revealed that the three foot long grounding bars were cut from their installed locations. The stolen grounding bars are valued at $1,000, each.
- Theft from Residence – At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, Officer Keith Pearce met with a resident of Oak Road in Forked River concerning a stolen piece of jewelry. The resident reported that a diamond ring was stolen from her residence. There were no signs of a forced entry into the residence. The stolen ring is described as yellow gold with several small round diamonds. The ring is valued at $840.
- Theft – On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, a resident of G Street in Forked River reported that in the days prior, an unknown person stole a metal towing assembly (receiver) that was positioned on the bed of a parked trailer adjacent to the his residence. The victim identified a Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe that was seen in the area with “scrap” metal in the back of the suspect vehicle during the period the towing assembly was stolen. The matter is currently under investigation.

- DUI Arrest – At approximately 11:30 p.m., on Monday, April 29, 2013, Officer Charles May conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle for driving without headlamps on Rt. 9 near Taylor Lane. Investigation led to the vehicle’s driver, 33-year-old Matthew Foster of Forked River, being arrested and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, and Maintenance of Lamps. Matthew Foster also received a criminal summons for Possession of Handgun Ammunition without first obtaining a New Jersey Firearms Identification Card.
- Shoplifting Arrest – At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013, Officers Adam Ewart and Jeffrey Slota responded to Walmart for a shoplifter being detained. Upon arrival of the officers, 24-year-old Brittany Gibson of Forked River was arrested for shoplifting. She was charged with shoplifting for attempting to conceal merchandise valued at $187.73 on her person. Brittany Gibson was later processed and released from police headquarters after receiving a criminal summons.
- Shoplifting Arrest – At approximately 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 28, 2013, Officers Alan Abrecht and Evan Androcy responded to Walmart for a shoplifter being detained. Upon the arrival of the officers, 21-year-old Kelsey Comerford of Manasquan was arrested for shoplifting. She was charged with shoplifting for attempting to conceal eight items valued at $46.79 inside her purse. Kelsey Comerford was later processed and released from police headquarters after receiving a criminal summons.
- Theft from a Residential Backyard – At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, Officer Noah Schaffer responded to a Sandy-damaged residence located on Sandpiper Drive in Lanoka Harbor. The resident reported that unknown actor(s) stole a 1′ x 18″ copper bell from a ship valued at $500. The bell was being displayed in the resident’s backyard for decoration. The estimated value of the bell is $500.
- Burglary of a Home – At approximately Noon on Sunday, April 28, 2013, Officer Scott Anderson was dispatched to a residential burglary at a home located on Oxgoose Drive, Lanoka Harbor. The homeowners reported that sometime between late December 2012 and April 28, 2013, their home was burglarized. Entry into the home was gained using force to break an upstairs window open. The homeowner reported that a wall-mounted 42-inch, ViewSonic LCD television and a wooden jewelry box containing costume jewelry were stolen during the burglary. The value of the stolen property is approximately $500 and damage to the home is estimated at $500.
- Arrest on Multiple Warrants – At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, Officer George Resetar performed a motor vehicle stop for speeding. This motor vehicle stop occurred on the 700 Block of Rt. 9 in Lanoka Harbor. During the stop, the vehicle’s passenger, Carmen Vargo, was observed not wearing a seatbelt. Further investigation at the location of the stop led to Carmen Vargo being arrested on three outstanding warrants. The warrants included: a $750 warrant issued by the Borough of Ship Bottom; a $757.79 warrant issued by Brick Township; and a $20,130.60 warrant out of Ocean County. Carmen Vargo was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.
- Burglary of a Vehicle – At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, Officer Noah Schaffer took a report concerning a burglarized vehicle. The victim reported that sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., on April 25, 2013, her vehicle was forcibly entered while parked at the Lacey Mall. It is believed entry was gained by forcing down a rear window that was left partially open. Once entry was made, the victim’s purse was emptied and her wallet was reportedly stolen. The property reported stolen includes: $20.00, credit cards, and medications totaling $170.
- Theft from a Residence – At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, Officer Samuel Della Sala responded to a home located on Seabright Road in Forked River. The resident reported someone stole jewelry and cash from within their home. The missing jewelry was valued at over $3,000 along with approximately $50 cash. Investigation by Officer Samuel Della Sala at the home led to the identity of the person who stole the jewelry and cash. The victims then indicated they did not wish to pursue this matter.
- Expired Driver’s License/Warrant Arrest – At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, Sergeant Michael DiBella and Officer Evan Androcy conducted a motor vehicle stop for failure to maintain a lane. The driver of the stopped vehicle, 47-year-old James Pollack of Whiting, was found to have an expired driver’s license and an active arrest warrant. The warrant in the amount of $250 was issued by the Manchester Municipal Court. James Pollack arrested and later released from police headquarters after posting the required bail.
- Theft from a Residential Backyard- At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, Officer Evan Androcy responded to a residence located on Sinclair Avenue in Lanoka Harbor. The homeowner reported that approximately one hour earlier, an unknown male entered his backyard. While in the backyard, the male reportedly stole two extension cords. The first cord was green in color and 100’ long with three plugs on the end valued at $50.00. The second cord was 50’ long and red/orange in color and valued at $30.00. This theft occurred while the residents were inside their residence. Investigation at the scene led to the development of additional witnesses and the suspect’s description. The suspect is described as a white male; approximately 17 years-old; short, dark hair; who was wearing a black sweater with khaki pants and a black backpack. A suspect vehicle was also developed as follows: an orange/rust colored Jeep Wrangler with larger than normal tires.
- Warrant Arrest – At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, Officers Darrell Nick and Adam Ewart responded to the “trestle” which is located on the Cedar Creek northwest of Warren Avenue in Lanoka Harbor (behind Hebrew Park). The officers were investigating possible illegal activity occurring at the location. Upon the arrival of the officers, they made an inquiry concerning the individuals observed congregating. One of the individuals, 50-year-old Rocco Selig of Lanoka Harbor, was found to have an outstanding warrant in the amount of $28,000. He was arrested and transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.
- Burglary of a Home – at approximately 12:40 p.m.on Friday, April 26, 2013, Officers Noah Schaffer and Jeffrey Slota responded a home located on Musket Road in Lanoka Harbor for a residential burglary. Investigation at the home revealed that unknown actor(s) used physical force to gain entry into the residence during a period the residents were not home. A resident stopped home for lunch and upon entering the house heard the front door slam. Upon checking the home’s interior it was discovered that the home was burglarized. The home sustained more than $600 in damage due to the forced entry. An inventory of the home revealed that more than $8,000 in jewelry was stolen. The on-scene police officers were aided by Detective Sergeant Christopher Cornelius and a K-9 Team from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. A search of the surrounding area yielded no suspects at the time.
- Weapons Possession Arrests – At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, several police officers responded to a 911 call concerning a dispute involving a knife. The dispute was reported at the NJ Transit bus stop located on Rt. 9 and Jones Road in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the recovery of two folding knives and one fixed blade knife believed to be used by combatants during a heated argument. There were no reported injuries. The involved parties, 29-year-old Eduardo Andrade of Toms River and 30-year-old Sergio Cruz-Miranda of Beachwood, were arrested at the scene and transported to headquarters. Both, Eduardo Andrade and Sergio Cruz-Miranda, were charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Both defendants were taken to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the $10,000 bail set for each.
- Theft from School Locker – On Thursday, April 25, 2013, a male student at the Lacey Township High School reported that sometime between 8:55 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. cut the lock to his gym locker inside the boys’ locker room and stole an iPad valued at $500.00. The Ipad was later located within the school and the matter was handled by school officials.
- Suspended Driver/Warrant Arrest – At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, Officer Adam Ewart conducted a motor vehicle stop for speeding near the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Hill Street. During the motor vehicle stop, it was determined that the vehicle’s driver, 21-year-old Brittany Windsor from Ocean Gate, had a suspended driver license. It was also determined that there was an active Wall Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $104.00 for Brittany Windsor’s arrest. Brittany Windsor was released ROR for the warrant and received summonses for Speeding and Driving while Suspended.
- Theft from a Closed Business – At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, an alert business owner reported suspicious activity at the location where the Shark Finn Inn was located. This alert business owner described seeing a pickup filled with air conditioning units exit the inn’s parking lot. The witness did an excellent job of recording the suspicious pickup’s description and registration. Investigation led to the identity of the pickup’s owner and confirmation that air conditioning units and other commercial refrigeration components were stolen from the inn. This investigation is ongoing and formal charges are expected in the near future concerning items stolen from the currently closed restaurant.
- Drug/Paraphernalia Possession – Atapproximately 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, Police Lieutenant James Veltri arrested 20-year-old Jesse Ehrnstrom of Lanoka Harbor for Possession of Marijuana 50 Grams or Less and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Prior to being arrested, Jesse Ehrnstrom was observed parking his vehicle directly across the street from the Ash Road “Kiddy” Park near the corner of Ash Road and Basin Road in Lanoka Harbor). Jesse Ehrnstrom and an adult male passenger exited the vehicle and entered the woods behind the park. After approximately 30 minutes, the pair returned to Basin Road and again began walking towards the woods. Upon their interaction with Police Lieutenant James Veltri, Jesse Ehrnstrom, who smelled strongly of burnt marijuana, was found to be in possession of marijuana and a smoking device. Jesse Ehrnstrom, after being arrested, was processed and released on a criminal summons. Jesse Ehrnstrom’s passenger was not charged during the incident.
- Theft of Marine Equipment – At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, Officer Keith Pearce met with a resident of Sheppard Avenue in Forked River. This resident reported his “Lee” marine battery and wire harness stolen from his boat trailer sometime during the morning hours of April 23, 2013. The battery was mounted on the front of boat trailer and was used to operate the trailer electric winch. The value of the stolen equipment is estimated at $100 for the Lee battery, $20 for a black ratchet strap, and $40 for a wire harness; totaling $160.
- Struck Bicyclist – At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, police responded to a 911 call of a bicyclist being struck by a pickup truck. Several police officers responded to the intersection of Deerhead Lake Drive and Lakeside Drive North in Forked River. The bicyclist, 81-year-old Edmund Sayer, was struck while traveling westbound in eastbound lane of Deerhead Lake Drive. Edmund Sayer exited the sidewalk and was attempting to cross Lakeside Drive North where it crossed Deerhead Lake Drive. The involved vehicle, a 2002 Ford F-250, was being operated by 41-year-old Keith Cicerello of Forked River. Edmund Sayer was treated at the scene by members of Lacey EMS and paramedics. He was then transported to Jersey Shore Trauma Center. The investigation concerning this accident is ongoing. Keith Cicerello was issued a citation at the scene for failing to obey a stop sign.
- House Fire – At approximately 5:40 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, Officers responded to a 911 call from a residence on Sinclair Avenue. The resident reported that an abandoned home in their neighborhood was on fire. Several police officers and the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department responded. The fire was extinguished but had caused a significant amount of damage. The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation. This investigation is being conducted by the Lacey Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminalistic Investigation Unit. There were no reported injuries. The Lacey Township DPW boarded up the residence in default of the owner of record taking responsibility for securing the property.

- Ransacked Residence– At approximately 5:30 p.m., on Monday, April 22, 2013, Officer Julie Barcalow responded to a home located on Maui Drive, Forked River. The homeowner returned to check on their currently unoccupied Sandy damaged residence. Upon doing so, numerous components of the home were discovered missing. This burglary and theft occurred between April 2nd and April 22nd, 2013, when it was discovered and reported. The entire hot water baseboard copper piping system was removed from the home along with plumbing pipes, fixtures, and sinks. Portions of the home’s exterior gutters and leaders were also stolen. A value of the stolen items has not yet been calculated.
- Telephone Fraud – At approximately 3:20 p.m., on Saturday, April 20, 2013, a resident of Laurel Blvd., Lanoka Harbor, reported that he was contacted by telephone at approximately 1:00 p.m. from a male subject identifying himself as an employee from Microsoft. The caller’s phone number appeared as 315-625-1818. The caller informed the resident that there was a problem with his computer, and he needed to remotely access the resident’s computer to make the repair. The fraudulent representative began asking the resident questions and at one point put another male on the phone that identified himself as a supposed supervisor from Microsoft. This subject advised the resident that he could not repair the computer remotely unless the resident first rendered payment. The resident realized the call was suspicious and hung up. He later contacted Microsoft who advised him they never had anyone call him. The phone number which appeared on the caller ID was not actually in service.
Residents should be aware that it is has become more common for companies and individuals to mask their telephone number and set the caller ID information to read something to suit their purpose. In this instance, the information was a phone number that was out of service, whereas the fraudulent caller may also set the caller ID information to read a company name. - Theft of A/C Components – At approximately 7:26 a.m., on Friday, April 19, 2013, Officer Darrell Nick responded to a residence located on Clearwater Drive, Forked River. The homeowner reported that sometime between 8:00 a.m. on April 18, 2013 and 7:30 a.m. on April 19, 2013, unknown person(s) stole two air conditioning compressors being stored on the side of the residence behind a fence. The approximate value of the air compressors is $50.00 each.
- Disorderly Conduct/Criminal Mischief – At approximately 10:47 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, Officers Joseph Soto and Darrell Nick responded to the Lacey Township High School due to a report of an out-of-control student. The student, a 17 year-old male, punched and damaged a 40 inch Phillips LCD TV valued at approximately $500.00 and a grease board. This damage occurred within the school’s office as the student shouted obscenities. Juvenile complaints were issued charging the student with Criminal Mischief and Disorderly Conduct.
- DUI Arrest – At approximately 12:46 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas conducted a motor vehicle stop for speeding near the intersection of Route 9 and First Street, Forked River. Investigation at the scene of the traffic stop led to the vehicle’s driver, 23-year-old Christopher Nardiello of Bayville, being arrested and charged with the following: DUI, Refusal, Speeding, Unregistered Vehicle, and Reckless Driving. The vehicle Christopher Nardiello was operating was impounded in accordance with John’s Law.
- Mail Theft – A resident of Sylvania Place in Forked River reported having a continuing problem with mail being repeatedly stolen from her mailbox over the past few weeks. Some of the thefts include items of value which were mailed to her but never received.
- Theft of A/C Components – At approximately 7:12 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Police Officer Alan Abrecht responded to a residence located on Lake Barnegat Drive (South), Forked River. The resident reported that unknown actor(s) removed their Goodman air conditioner compressor by cutting its connections. The unit was located in the victim’s side yard. This theft is valued at $1,200.
- Theft from a Work Truck – At approximately 4:17 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, a business owner reported that tools were stolen from a work truck while it was parked for several days at 811 Route 9 North, Lanoka Harbor. The complainant reported that the stolen tools were valued at approximately $850.00.
- Ordinance Violation – At approximately 8:41 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Officer Samuel Della Sala observed a suspicious male walking around the exterior of a closed business located on Route 9, Forked River. The observed male entered a vehicle and drove away from the business. Officer Samuel Della Sala conducted a motor vehicle stop of the suspicious vehicle. Investigation after the stop revealed that the vehicle’s driver, 46-year-old John Schwarzenbach of Forked River, is a metal scrapper. He was issued a Lacey Township Municipal Ordinance 289-6 violation, Disturbance of Refuse, for taking two pieces of scrap metal from the parking lot of the business where he was spotted.
- Related Theft – At approximately 8:40 a.m., on Thursday, April 18, 2013, Police Officer Noah Schaffer took a report from a business located on Challenger Way, Forked River. There, it was determined that between 6:30 p.m. on April 17, 2013, and 8:00 a.m. on April 18, 2013, automotive-type batteries were stolen from vehicles and a backhoe parked in the rear lot of the business. Each battery is estimated at $150.
Based on the information Patrol Officer Samuel Della Sala gleaned during his initial encounter with John Schwarzenbach at the Route 9 business, John Schwarzenbach, was identified as a suspect in other recent thefts of “scrapable” items. Further investigation led to John Schwarzenbach being formally charged with Burglary, Theft, and Trespassing for burglarizing a vehicle on March 15, 2013. The unlawfully entered vehicle was parked overnight at a Lanoka Harbor automotive repair center. The unlawfully entered vehicle, a pickup, had its stereo speakers stolen. Officer Samuel Della Sala also charged John Schwarzenbach in connection with the theft of the batteries reported stolen from the business located on Challenger Way, Forked River.
After being arrested, John Schwarzenbach was processed, served with the criminal complaints, and released on his own recognizance. - Drug Possession & Intent to Distribute – At approximately 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Officers Scott Anderson and Darrell Nick responded to the State Game Farm, 151 Route 9, Forked River, due to a report of three males trespassing on the farm’s property to possibly smoke marijuana. This incident was reported to police by an alert Sunset Drive resident. While a responding officer approached the trio on the farm’s entrance road, the trio observed the police vehicle and attempted to flee towards Sunset Drive. They soon encountered another police officer who was positioned on Sunset Drive. The trio included a 17- year-old Forked River male, a 17- year-old Lanoka Harbor male, and 18 year-old, Zachary Allsopp, of Forked River.
Both juvenile males were charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana 50 Grams or Less, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (smoking devices), and Trespassing. The juveniles were later released to their parents. Zachary Allsopp received a special form of complaint and summons at the scene charging him with Trespassing. - Warrant Arrest/Hindering Apprehension – At approximately 1:08 p.m., on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, Police Officer John Simonson responded to the Laurel Boulevard Wawa to assist Special Officer Kenneth Martin. Special Officer Kenneth Martin was speaking with a female driver who parked in a handicap stall while having an expired placard. The female driver initially identified herself as Sharon Pavlik and then offered Sharon Suter as her name. Investigation revealed the driver’s true identity, 45-year-old Sharon Beyer of Lanoka Harbor. Investigation further revealed Sharon Beyer’s driver license was suspended, and she had two outstanding warrants for her arrest. The warrants included Toms River in the amount of $864.00 and Ocean Township (Ocean County) in the amount of $278.00. Sharon Beyer was charged with Hindering Apprehension and Driving While Suspended on summonses. Sharon Beyer was transported to the Ocean County Jail in default of the bail on the warrants.

- Shoplifter – At approximately 7:21 p.m., on Monday, April 15, 2013, Officer Kymberly Gudgeon responded to Walmart concerning a male shoplifter being detained. Upon the officer’s arrival, Christopher Stoma, aged 18, of Barnegat was arrested for shoplifting. He attempted to steal an Apple Dock Connector and other merchandise totaling $49.91. Christopher Stoma was released on a summons after being processed.
- Theft from a Residence – At approximately 11:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 14, 2013, the homeowners of a Cedar Lake Point residence reported jewelry and cash stolen from their home. There was no sign of a forced entry into the home. The theft reportedly occurred while the homeowners were on vacation and a family member had guests inside the residence. The stolen items include: a ladies Zigzag diamond gold ring ($500), a men’s Citizen Ecodrive watch, gold with blue face ($600), and $160.00 in cash.
- Shoplifter – At approximately 1:41 p.m., on Saturday, April 13, 2013, Officers John Cernek and John Simonson responded to Kohls concerning a male shoplifter that fled the store with stolen merchandise. While utilizing the suspect’s description, the involved officers located the suspect, 19-year-old Dylan Avery of Bayville. He was charged with one count of shoplifting for stealing a gold-colored watch valued at $30. The stolen watch was returned to the store and Dylan Avery was released on a summons.
- Warrant Arrest – At approximately 2:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 13, 2013, Officers Alan Abrecht and George Resetar arrested 25-year-old Brian Shiflett of Forked River for an outstanding $500 warrant issued by Pine Beach. Brian Shiflett was arrested outside his home located on Woodland Road, Forked River. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail in default old of $500 bail.
- Credit Card Theft/Fraudulent Use – On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, an adult, female resident of Bayville, reported her Visa credit card stolen along with $25 in cash. The victim works in Lacey Township. A subsequent investigation by Police Officer Samuel Della Sala revealed that the victim’s Visa card was used on April 2, 2013, to complete fraudulent purchases at businesses located in Lacey Township. On Friday, April 12, 2013, Police Officer Samuel Della Sala arrested 18-year-old Brittany Dickinson of Tappan Street in Forked River. She was charged with Theft of Moveable Property, Theft of a Credit Card, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card (2 Counts), and Criminal Attempt to Fraudulently Use a Credit Card (2 Counts). Brittany Dickenson was released on summons after being processed.
- Residential Burglary – At approximately 6:50 p.m., on Friday, April 12, 2013, Police Officers George Resetar and Robert Duffy responded to a home located on Center Street, Forked River, for a reported burglary to the residence. While the occupants of the residence were not home (3:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.) a non-forced entry was made into the residence. Once inside, force was utilized to breach a locked door. Stolen items from the residence included: a laptop computer, silver coins, and a GPS unit. The value of the stolen property is believed to exceed $500.
- Shoplifter – At approximately 1:40 p.m., on Friday, April 12, 2013, Officers Darrell Nick and Noah Schaffer responded to Kohls concerning an adult male being detained for shoplifting. Upon arrival of the officers, 39-year-old Thomas Hickey from Elmira Heights, NY, was arrested for shoplifting. He attempted to steal a Home Classic pillow sham and a Home Classic micro fleece blanket ($69.89). While in custody, a warrant in the amount of $250 issued by Barnegat Township was located. Thomas Hickey was transported to the Ocean County Jail in default of $2,500 for the shoplifting charge along with the $250 warrant out of Barnegat Township.
- DUI – At approximately 1:40 a.m., on Friday, April 12, 2013, Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas arrested 27-year-old Paul Diener of Taylor Avenue in Beach Haven, for DUI on Rt 9 in Forked River and charged him with DUI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Change the address on his license.
- UPDATE – Arrest – On Thursday, April 11, 2013, Officers George Resetar and Andrew Slota prepared and served three complaint warrants against 32 year-old Nicholas Fisher of Brand Road in Toms River for the recent thefts of flat screen TVs from the Lacey Walmart. Nicholas Fisher’s total bail was set at $25,000. Officers Resetar and A. Slota conducted the investigation with the assistance of Detective Ronald Buxton. Nicholas Fisher was charged with three separate incidents of theft totaling $1,312 worth of stolen property. These incidents occurred at the Lacey Walmart on April 4, March 25, and March 19, 2013. At this time of this press release Nicholas Fisher remains in the Ocean County Jail in default of his bail.
- Drug Arrest – On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, officers responded to a Canterbury Drive, Forked River, home with a report of an unresponsive female. While rendering aid with medics, officers discovered two bundles of heroin. The patient, Chelsea Favor, was transported to the hospital. Officer Andrew Slota issued an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Chelsea Favor of Canterbury Drive, Forked River. She is charged with possession of heroin including: (18 full wax folds) and (8 wax folds containing residue). Chelsea Favor was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. Police Officer George Resetar later arrested Chelsea Favor. She was then transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of her bail set at $20,000.
- Warrant Arrest – At approximately 1:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas arrested 21-year-old Matthew Michota of Brick Avenue in Lanoka Harbor for an outstanding $100 warrant issued by Ocean Township (Waretown). Matthew Michota was transported to police headquarters where he posted bail and was released.
- Theft from Residence – At approximately 12:00 p.m., on April 9, 2013,Police Officer Noah Schaffer met with a residence on Taylor Lane, Forked River. This resident reported that someone stole the A/C compressor from the side of their residence sometime within the past month. The stolen coil was described as possibly being manufactured by Carrier, estimated value of $450. During the theft of the unit, the electrical wiring connecting the unit to the residence was cut causing approximately $1,000 in damages.
- DUI – At approximately 8:17 p.m., on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, Officers Samuel Della Sala and George Resetar investigated a heavily damaged telephone pole located in front of police headquarters at the corner of Headquarters Lane and Lacey Road in Forked River. The involved vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with Pennsylvania plates, was quickly located inside the parking lot of the Lacey Township Municipal Building. The Cherokee displayed damage consistent with a vehicle striking a pole. Investigation following the crash led to the Jeep Cherokee’s driver, 19-year-old Geovanni Leandro of S. Main Street in Forked River, being charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and being an Unlicensed Driver.
- Drug Arrest – Shortly after 6:00 p.m., on Monday, April 8, 2013, an alert, concerned citizen contacted police to report a suspicious vehicle. The caller observed an out-of-state U-Haul van exit Western Boulevard and drive into the woods just prior to the Cedar Creek Bridge. The U-Haul was further described as containing a male driver and a female passenger. Officers Julie Barcalow, John Simonson, and Lieutenant James Veltri responded to the area and located the van. The van was located parked in the woods several hundred yards off the road from Western Boulevard. Investigation at the scene led to the van’s driver, 43-year-old Charles Dekker of Forked River, receiving summons for violating Lacey Township’s Trespassing ordinance. The van’s passenger, 22-year-old Samantha Hajjar of Fox Hollow Drive in Lanoka Harbor, was charged with Possession of Heroin for possessing 22 wax folds of heroin. She also received a summons for Trespassing. Samantha Hajjar was arrested and later released after being processed and formally charged.
