  • Escapee Captured – On Monday, May 9, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., Detective Keith Pearce was assigned to a fixed surveillance position at the Forked River Rest Area of the Garden State Parkway in the event the escapee, Arthur Buckel, was either hiding in the area or might possibly return to the area. While Detective Pearce was at the post with K-9 Officer Daniel Rotundo from the New Jersey Department of Corrections, a passing motorist reported possibly seeing a person in the woods along the northbound lane on the east side of the roadway at MM 76.5 in Lacey Township. Detective Keith Pearce responded immediately to the location near the rest stop and held the subject at gun point. With the assistance of the New Jersey Department of Corrections Officer, escapee Arthur Buckel was taken into custody without resistance. He was immediately turned over to state officials at the scene and was transported to the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. The members of the Lacey Township are very proud of Detective Pearce and all of our personnel involved in the operation which lasted 13 hours. Our focus was on maintaining strategic positions throughout this event to ensure the safety of our residents.

  • Theft – On Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 5:10 p.m., Officer Martin Julian and Officer Michael Verwey responded to 607 Winthrop Drive in Forked River for a report of theft. The victim, William Branch, reported that between May 5th and May 8th some person or persons cut the shrink wrap of his boat, entered the boat, and stole a Garmin GPS valued at $600 and two marine batteries valued at $200. The boat was on a trailer located on the side of the residence at the time of the theft.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 12:51 a.m., Sergeant Paul Sullivan was on patrol when he was advised by a citizen that a patron who just drove to the Wawa, 701 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ, appeared to be intoxicated. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of John H. Maher of Pleasantville Court in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for DUI. John Maher was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with DUI and Reckless Driving. The vehicle he was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law. Officer Anthony Sarno was the arresting officer.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 3:58 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel and Officer Noah Schaffer responded to Kohl’s, 304 Route 9 North in Forked River, NJ for a report of shoplifting. The loss prevention employee reported that he observed a female select 29 assorted pieces of merchandise from their displays and take them into the fitting room. The female subject reportedly removed the security sensors from the merchandise and concealed all of the merchandise in two personal bags that she reportedly brought into the store. The female then reportedly attempted to leave the store without paying for the concealed merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 35-year-old Amanda L. Malinowski of Brentwood Place in Forked River, NJ for Shoplifting and on an outstanding Toms River Township Municipal Court Warrant in the amount of $250. Amanda Malinowski was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with Shoplifting $1,074.00 worth of merchandise. Amanda Malinowski was also found to be in possession of tools which she used to cut and remove the security sensors off of the merchandise. As a result, she was charged with Use of Tools to Remove Anti-Shoplifting Devices as well.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 2:21 p.m., Officer Frederick Scott Anderson responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for a report of Shoplifting. The asset protection employee reported that a male subject was observed removing six boxes of 5 Hour Energy drinks from their displays and bringing them over to another aisle where he reportedly pulled out Walmart shopping bags from his pocket and placed the merchandise inside the bags. The male subject then reportedly attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 45-year-old David P. Grimes Jr. of Sailors Way in Lakewood, NJ for Shoplifting. David Grimes was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Shoplifting $121.85 worth of merchandise.

  • Criminal Mischief – On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at approximately 1:27 p.m., Officer Michael Hein was on patrol when observed graffiti on several signs and park equipment inside Huffy Wallis Park, 1740 Parkside Drive in the Barnegat Pines section of Forked River. Officer Hein also located graffiti on a stop sign in another section of the Barnegat Pines. The Lacey Township Department of Public Works was notified and responded to clean up the graffiti.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 3:52 p.m., Officer Michael Hein and Officer Frederick Scott Anderson responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for a report of shoplifting. The asset protection employees reported that that they observed a female subject remove several items from the displays inside the store and then attempt to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 23-year-old Kaitlyin P. Brake of Capstan Avenue in Beachwood, NJ for Shoplifting $76.09 worth of merchandise. Kaitlyn Brake was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was charged with Shoplifting.
