DUI and Aggravated Assault (Arrest) – On Sunday, January 3, 2016, at 12:34 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe was on patrol when he observed a vehicle stationary on Manchester Avenue near the intersection of Grove Street with both passenger side tires up on the curb. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was occupied by a female who was slumped over in the driver seat of the vehicle. Officer Keefe determined that the driver, 35-year-old Laura M. Metzger of Brook Forest Drive in South Toms River, NJ, was DUI. Laura Metzger was arrested and transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with DUI and Reckless Driving. The vehicle he was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s law. At approximately 1:45 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe was at Lacey Township Police Headquarters preparing to release 35-year-old Laura M. Metzger when she began to spit and be disruptive while in an interview room inside Lacey Township Police Headquarters. Laura Metzger began to act increasingly aggressive and refused to cooperate after repeated requests. Laura Metzger refused to cooperate and struck Officer Keefe in his face with a closed fist and spit in Officer Keefe’s face. Laura Metzger was charged with Throwing Bodily Fluid on a Police Officer and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Judge Damian Murray set bail at $10,000. Laura Metzger was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, January 3, 2016, at 12:47 a.m., Officer Michael Verwey responded to the area of Route 9 and Beach Boulevard for a report of an intoxicated driver. The caller was following the vehicle and reported that the suspect vehicle was driving all over the roadway and into oncoming traffic. The caller reported that the suspect struck curbs and the grassy areas located next to the roadway. The suspect vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed as the officers attempted to catch up to him. Officer Michael Verwey was eventually able to stop the vehicle on Lighthouse Drive in Waretown, NJ. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 39-year-old Derek J. Murphy of South Olympia Drive in Waretown, NJ. Derek Murphy was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, and Improper Passing. The vehicle was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

DUI and Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Friday, January 1, 2016, at 12:45 a.m., Officer Jason Lee made a motor vehicle stop on the 300 block of Route 9 North. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 47-year-old Richard Kruse of Texas Drive in Jackson, NJ for DUI. Richard Kruse was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, where he was processed and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Failure to Observe Traffic Signal, and Possession of a CDS in a Vehicle. Richard Kruse was found to be in Possession of Oxycodone without a Valid Prescription. The vehicle he was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s law.

DUI and Warrant (Arrest) – On January 1, 2016, at 4:53 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe was on patrol when he was flagged down by a citizen and received a report of a possible DUI involving a highly intoxicated person. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 31-year-old Kenneth A. Ward of Galleon Court in Bayville, NJ for DUI. Kenneth Ward was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with DUI and Reckless Driving. Kenneth Ward also had an outstanding Beachwood Borough warrant for his arrest in the amount of $500. The vehicle he was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s law.

Theft – On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 1:26 p.m., Officer Jason Lee responded to Christopher’s Auto Sales, 309 Route 9 North, for a report of theft. The victim reported that during the overnight hours of Monday, December 28, 2015 into the morning hours of Tuesday, December 29, 2015 an unknown person or persons removed catalytic converters out from underneath 14 vehicles that were for sale on the lot of Christopher’s Auto Sales. The damage to the vehicles and theft is estimated at $10,000.

Warrant Arrest – On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 9:54 p.m. Officer Andrew Slota responded to a residence on Weehawken Avenue in Forked River for a report of a disturbance. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of one of the occupants, 41-year-old Ronald Sielo of Weehawkin Avenue in Forked River, NJ, on an outstanding Middletown Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $422. Ronald Sileo was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and then turned over to the Middletown Township Police Department.

Theft from a Vehicle – On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 12:12 p.m., Officer Jason Lee met with a victim at Lacey Township Police Headquarters who reported that during the overnight hours of January 3, 2016 and January 4, 2016, an unknown person or persons entered her unlocked vehicle and stole loose change, a silver bracelet, a silver ring with a turquoise stone, and a silver child size ring. The value of the stolen property is estimated at $111. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of the residence at the time of the theft.

Theft from a Vehicle – On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 8:32 a.m., Officer Jason Lee responded to a Newport Road residence for a report of a theft. The victim reported that during the overnight hours of January 2, 2016 and January 4, 2016 an unknown person or persons entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a red leather wallet. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of her residence. The wallet and contents were located down the street by a neighbor and returned to the owner. The wallet and contents were valued at $20.

Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 2:12 a.m., Officer Anthony Sarno was on patrol when he made a motor vehicle stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, he detected the odor of burning Marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the passenger, 20-year-old Kristy Porter of Neils Court in Lumberton, NJ for possession of Marijuana. Kristy Porter was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The driver, 31-year-old David A. Hiner of Irving Place in Eatontown, NJ, was charged at the scene with Driving While Suspended, Unregistered Vehicle, and Speeding.

Warrant Arrest – On Sunday, January 3, 2016, at 12:08 a.m., Officer Michael Verwey was on patrol when he observed a suspicious vehicle left running and unoccupied on Hazelton Avenue near Bunnell Street in Lanoka Harbor. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 26-year-old Craig S. Brabant of Sepulga Drive in Browns Mills, NJ, on a Hi-Nella Borough Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $350 and a Pemberton Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $165. Craig Brabant was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail on the warrants.

Burglary – On Friday, January 01, 2016, at 4:58 p.m., Officer Brian Holt responded to a residence on Clearview Street in Forked River for a report of a burglary. The victim reported that between 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015 and 4:40 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2016, an unknown person or persons entered her residence and stole cash from a dresser drawer and jewelry from a jewelry box. Entry was made into the residence by breaking the glass of a rear window. Approximately $200 in cash and several pieces of jewelry were stolen. The Lacey Township Police Department Detective Bureau responded to the scene to continue the investigation. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted in processing the scene.

Theft – On Friday, January 1, 2016, at 2:47 p.m., Officer Brian Holt responded to 1009 Honolulu Drive in the Forked River Beach section of the township for a report of theft. The homeowner, Don Melchiorre, reported that between Monday, December 28, 2015 and January 01, 2016, an unknown person or persons stole siding from his house which is under construction. The stolen property is described as 2 boxes of yellow and white siding valued at $300.

Warrant Arrest – On December 31, 2015, at 5:26 p.m., Officer Christopher Meyler responded to the parking lot of Kohl’s, 244 Route 9 North in Forked River, NJ, for a report of a suspicious female. The caller reported that he was approached by a female in the parking lot of Kohl’s who requested that he return items for her because she was not permitted in the store. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 41-year-old Laurie A. Carmer of Tuscarora Avenue in Barnegat, NJ, on an outstanding Lacey Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $500 for a previous charge of Shoplifting. Laurie Carmer was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and then transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

Warrant Arrest – On Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 10:37 a.m., 46-year-old James M. Ofsanko of Predmore Avenue in Lanoka Harbor, NJ, turned himself in on an outstanding Lacey Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $5,000, which had been issued for an incident that occurred the previous day. James Ofsanko was processed and released after posting bail utilizing a bail bondsman.
- Theft from Vehicle – On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 4:07 p.m., Officer Charles May responded to Letts Avenue in Forked River for a report of theft. The complainant, Jennifer Stratton, reported that during the overnight hours of December 28, 2015 into December 29, 2015, an unknown person or persons entered two of her vehicles and stole items. The vehicle reportedly had approximately $4 in loose change and a bottle of Vicodin prescription medication taken from it. The other vehicle reportedly had $3 in loose change stolen from it. Both of the vehicles were unlocked and parked in the driveway of the residence at the time of the incident.

Theft – On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 2:11 p.m., Officer Jason Lee spoke with the property manager of a Carr Street residence currently owned by a bank in reference to a theft. The property manager reported that between October 23, 2015 and November 18, 2015 an unknown person or persons removed copper water pipes from underneath the residence and the copper air conditioner condenser coil from the side of the residence. The cost of the damage and stolen property is estimated at $2,500.

Shoplifting (Arrest) – On December 29, 2015, at 11:42 a.m., Officer Kymberly Gudgeon responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for a report of shoplifting. The Loss Prevention Employee reported that he observed a male and a female in the electronic section of the store that he had recognized from a prior incident. The Loss Prevention Employee reported that the female subject removed the anti-theft device from a wireless router box and then placed the item in a white plastic Walmart shopping bag. The male subject was also observed removing the anti-theft device from the box of a Linksys wireless router and then observed concealing the box inside the front of his pants. The subjects then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 28-year-old Brandon Myles, formerly of Lanoka Harbor, NJ for shoplifting a Lynksys Wireless Router valued at $224 and 30-year-old Nicole Surko of Toms River, NJ, for shoplifting a Netgear wireless router valued at $278. Both arrestees were transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where they were processed and each charged with Shoplifting with bail set by Judge Damian Murray at $5,000 each. Brandon Myles had an outstanding Lacey Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $500. Nicole Surko had an outstanding Island Heights Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $89. Both arrestees were transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

Theft from a Vehicle – On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 9:19 a.m., Officer Kymberly Gudgeon received a report of theft which occurred between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on December 28, 2015 and 7:00 a.m. on December 29, 2015, on the 300 block of Briggs Avenue in Forked River. An unknown person or persons reportedly entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a wallet and loose change. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of the residence. The red leather wallet contained assorted credit cards and identifications with a value of $100. The cash and loose change is estimated at $60.
