  • Convicted Felon in Possession of an AK-47 Assault Weapon (Arrest) – On Sunday, May 15, 2016, the Lacey Township Police Department led a multi-agency task force covering in excess of 60 square miles of rural wooded area in Lacey Township and Ocean Township within Ocean County. The focus of the detail was on the detection and deterrence of criminal activity, trespassing, and off-road vehicle violations in the Pinelands and on private property. The task force was made up of law enforcement officers from the Lacey Township Police Department with the assistance of the Ocean Township Police Department, the New Jersey State Police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey State Park Police, and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

    At approximately 1:05 p.m., on Sunday, May 15, 2016, a patrol team from the task force, made up of the above agencies and led by Lacey Police Sergeant Paul Sullivan, Jr. and Lacey Police Senior Officer Michael Eden, observed a suspicious vehicle within the wooded area in Lacey Township. The vehicle was a 2007, Hyundai Tucson which was pulled off of the path into a field along the woods on Bryant Road in Lacey Township within the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area. Upon further investigation, the task force officers located two individuals in the wooded area approximately 100 yards from the parked vehicle. One subject, identified as Bruce J. Post, 3rd, was wearing combat gear and gave indications of possible white-supremacist involvement. Upon speaking with the two subjects and determining their activities to be suspicious, the officers then discovered an AK-47, a Walther P38 9mm handgun, eight 30-round high-capacity magazines, and one 100-round drum magazine, and various forms of ammunition at the scene within the woods where the subjects had just emerged. Officers arrested 42-year-old Bruce J. Post, 3rd of Exton Avenue in Trenton (Hamilton), NJ for several criminal offenses. He was transported to the Lacey Township Police Department for processing. The second individual, identified as a 38-year-old male from Trenton (Hamilton), NJ, was detained at the scene and not arrested as the investigation continued.

    Bruce J. Post, 3rd was processed at the Lacey Township Police Department by Officer Michael Eden and Detective Keith Pearce. Bruce J. Post, 3rd was charged with the 1st Degree Crime of Unlawful Possession of Weapons (Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons – Felon), along with the second degrees offenses of Unlawful Possession of Weapons (handgun), Unlawful Possession of Weapons (Assault Weapon – AK-47), and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons (Felon). Additionally, he was charged with the 4th Degree Crime of Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices (High Capacity Magazines). His bail was set in the amount of $400,000 with no 10 percent option. Bruce J. Post, 3rd was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

    The investigation is continuing and additional charges against the second individual who was located at the scene are pending further investigation by Lacey Police. The vehicle, which belonged to Bruce J. Post, 3rd, was impounded for further processing. Shovels and tarps were also found in the possession of Bruce J. Post, 3rd. Based on the suspicious nature of the entire encounter, a thorough K-9 and foot search was conducted in the area the subjects were located. The additional search did not reveal any further evidence. Based on Bruce J. Post’s well publicized past history out of Trenton and Hamilton, NJ, the Lacey Township Police Department is asking anyone with information that might be helpful to this investigation to contact Lieutenant Michael DiBella or Officer Michael Eden of the Lacey Township Police Department at 609-693-6636. Two additional searches have been conducted in the general area of the encounter in the days that followed with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police.

    The multi-agency task force that led to this arrest was established three weeks ago by the Lacey Township Police Department due to the increasing trespassing by persons in off-road vehicles, fire hazards, and criminal activity within the rural wooded areas west of the Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township. The details will continue in the weeks to come.

  • Missing Person (Accidental Drowning) On Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 10:26 p.m., the Lacey Township Police Department received a call that 72-year-old Kuo Chun-Mei Tsai (Asian female) was not at her Constitution Drive home in Forked River and the family could not locate her after they searched the area for more than two hours. Once notified, the Lacey Township Police Department coordinated a search of the area with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 units and the New Jersey State Police Aviation (Helicopter) unit. A check with neighbors in the area revealed that she was observed walking with her cane on Constitution Drive earlier in the evening. Checks of all of the properties and stores in the area yielded no results. She was reported by family to not understand or speak English (only Chinese) and said to have just moved into the area from Weehawkin, NJ. She had only been in the United States since October of 2015. She was said to be completely unfamiliar with the area and had significant mobility impairment. The coordinated search efforts continued throughout the night and into the early morning hours.

    It appears many residents saw her walking in the nice evening weather between 4:15 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. when she was last observed near the area of Cabot Street where her cane was eventually located. Members of the public reported last seeing her on Nautilus Boulevard near Cabot Street in Forked River. Her cane was subsequently located on a dock at the South Branch of Stouts Creek at the end of Cabot Street. The search efforts extended from Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 10:26 p.m. when the Lacey Township Police Department was notified of her disappearance through to 6:24 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016, when the body was discovered in the waterway. A resident of Winthrop Drive (two blocks east of Cabot Street), upon daybreak, observed the victim floating deceased in the South Branch Stouts Creek across the waterway behind his house. The Lacey Township Police Department was notified at 6:24 a.m., on Friday, May 13, 2016, of the discovery. The family was advised and the victim was removed from the water by authorities. Detective Kymberly Gudgeon of the Lacey Township Police Department handled the investigation with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU), Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death as an accidental drowning.

  •  DUI (Arrest) – On Monday, May 16, 2016, at 10:57 p.m., Officer Jason Lee was on patrol in the area of Route 9 in the Forked River section of the township when he observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel. Officer Lee conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle on Route 9 near the intersection of Parker’s Point Boulevard. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 63-year-old Richard C. Johnson of Princeton Park in Lawrenceville, NJ, for DUI. Richard Johnson was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters and the vehicle he was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s Law. Richard Johnson was processed and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Consuming an Alcoholic Beverage While Driving.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Friday, May 13, 2016, at 2:23 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to Shop Rite, 348 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of Shoplifting. The Loss Prevention Employee reported an incident of Shoplifting that occurred on May 9, 2016 and supplied the officer with video surveillance footage. The white male suspect loaded a shopping cart with numerous pieces of store merchandise with a total value of $415. The suspect was identified as 39-year-old William J. Hoefsloot of Parkside Drive in Forked River, NJ. William Hoefsloot was located at his residence and upon further investigation was placed under arrest for Shoplifting. William Hoefsloot was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Shoplifting.

  • Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Friday, May 13, 2016, at 8:38 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel was on patrol when he observed a vehicle speeding in the area of Lacey Road and Caldwell Avenue in the Forked River section of the township. Officer Dalziel conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle on Route 9 near Station Drive. While speaking with the driver, 23-year-old Thomas B. Murray of Lincoln Street in South Amboy, NJ, Officer Dalziel smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of Thomas Murray for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Thomas Murray was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Friday, May 13, 2016, at 10:29 p.m., Officer Christopher Meyler was on patrol when he stopped a vehicle on the 200 Block of Nantucket Road in the Forked River Beach section of the township. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 33-year-old Robert G. Askins of Scotchpine Drive in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of Robert Askins on an outstanding Ocean Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $120. Robert Askins was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 8:51 p.m., Officer Elton Copes was on patrol when he conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle on Lacey Road near the Garden State Parkway. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 38-year-old William J. Perrini of 225-A Leeward Road in Manahawkin, NJ, on an outstanding Little Egg Harbor Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $156. William Perrini was transported to Lacey Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail.

  • Theft – On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 4:01 p.m., Officer Dalziel responded to a Beach Boulevard residence for a report of Theft. The victim reported that prior to contacting the police, she observed a male and female run onto her property and steal a “Donald Trump” sign that she had displayed in her yard. The sign was valued at $1.

  • Hit & Run Accident & False Reports – On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 9:54 a.m., Officer Frederick Scott Anderson responded to Lacey Police Headquarters for a report of a Hit & Run motor vehicle accident. 40-year-old David Laveglio of  2nd Street in Waretown, NJ, reported that earlier in the morning, between 8:15 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., he parked his vehicle in the parking lot of Home Depot, 244 Route 9 North in Forked River, NJ. Upon returning to his car approximately 10 minutes later, he reportedly discovered that it had been struck by an unknown vehicle that reportedly left the scene. Officer Anderson checked David Laveglio’s vehicle and determined that the extent of the damage was not consistent with the story that David Laveglio had provided to him. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by David Laveglio had been involved in a hit & run collision that occurred the evening before, in which a vehicle ran off the road and struck a speed limit sign on the 100 block of Manchester Avenue. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle and failed to report the collision. Significant pieces of the vehicle had been left at the scene which matched up with the gray, 2008, Chrysler 300 that David Laveglio had driven to police headquarters. Formal charges are pending completion for the filing of the false police report and other related motor vehicle offenses.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 9:39 p.m. Officer Christopher Meyler responded to a Beach Boulevard residence in the Forked River Beach section of the township for an ambulance call. While at the scene it was discovered that a resident, 29-year-old Joseph M. Hover of Beach Boulevard had an outstanding Ocean County Sheriff’s Department No Bail warrant. Joseph Hover was placed under arrest and turned over to the custody of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

  • Escapee Captured – On Monday, May 9, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., Detective Keith Pearce was assigned to a fixed surveillance position at the Forked River Rest Area of the Garden State Parkway in the event the escapee, Arthur Buckel, was either hiding in the area or might possibly return to the area. While Detective Pearce was at the post with K-9 Officer Daniel Rotundo from the New Jersey Department of Corrections, a passing motorist reported possibly seeing a person in the woods along the northbound lane on the east side of the roadway at MM 76.5 in Lacey Township. Detective Keith Pearce responded immediately to the location near the rest stop and held the subject at gun point. With the assistance of the New Jersey Department of Corrections Officer, escapee Arthur Buckel was taken into custody without resistance. He was immediately turned over to state officials at the scene and was transported to the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. The members of the Lacey Township are very proud of Detective Pearce and all of our personnel involved in the operation which lasted 13 hours. Our focus was on maintaining strategic positions throughout this event to ensure the safety of our residents.

  • Theft – On Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 5:10 p.m., Officer Martin Julian and Officer Michael Verwey responded to 607 Winthrop Drive in Forked River for a report of theft. The victim, William Branch, reported that between May 5th and May 8th some person or persons cut the shrink wrap of his boat, entered the boat, and stole a Garmin GPS valued at $600 and two marine batteries valued at $200. The boat was on a trailer located on the side of the residence at the time of the theft.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 12:51 a.m., Sergeant Paul Sullivan was on patrol when he was advised by a citizen that a patron who just drove to the Wawa, 701 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ, appeared to be intoxicated. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of John H. Maher of Pleasantville Court in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for DUI. John Maher was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with DUI and Reckless Driving. The vehicle he was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law. Officer Anthony Sarno was the arresting officer.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 3:58 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel and Officer Noah Schaffer responded to Kohl’s, 304 Route 9 North in Forked River, NJ for a report of shoplifting. The loss prevention employee reported that he observed a female select 29 assorted pieces of merchandise from their displays and take them into the fitting room. The female subject reportedly removed the security sensors from the merchandise and concealed all of the merchandise in two personal bags that she reportedly brought into the store. The female then reportedly attempted to leave the store without paying for the concealed merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 35-year-old Amanda L. Malinowski of Brentwood Place in Forked River, NJ for Shoplifting and on an outstanding Toms River Township Municipal Court Warrant in the amount of $250. Amanda Malinowski was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with Shoplifting $1,074.00 worth of merchandise. Amanda Malinowski was also found to be in possession of tools which she used to cut and remove the security sensors off of the merchandise. As a result, she was charged with Use of Tools to Remove Anti-Shoplifting Devices as well.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 2:21 p.m., Officer Frederick Scott Anderson responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for a report of Shoplifting. The asset protection employee reported that a male subject was observed removing six boxes of 5 Hour Energy drinks from their displays and bringing them over to another aisle where he reportedly pulled out Walmart shopping bags from his pocket and placed the merchandise inside the bags. The male subject then reportedly attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 45-year-old David P. Grimes Jr. of Sailors Way in Lakewood, NJ for Shoplifting. David Grimes was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Shoplifting $121.85 worth of merchandise.

  • Criminal Mischief – On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at approximately 1:27 p.m., Officer Michael Hein was on patrol when observed graffiti on several signs and park equipment inside Huffy Wallis Park, 1740 Parkside Drive in the Barnegat Pines section of Forked River. Officer Hein also located graffiti on a stop sign in another section of the Barnegat Pines. The Lacey Township Department of Public Works was notified and responded to clean up the graffiti.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 3:52 p.m., Officer Michael Hein and Officer Frederick Scott Anderson responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, NJ for a report of shoplifting. The asset protection employees reported that that they observed a female subject remove several items from the displays inside the store and then attempt to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 23-year-old Kaitlyin P. Brake of Capstan Avenue in Beachwood, NJ for Shoplifting $76.09 worth of merchandise. Kaitlyn Brake was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was charged with Shoplifting.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 1:51 a.m., Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas responded to Wawa, 444 Route 9 South in Forked River, in reference to a report of an intoxicated driver parked at the gas pumps.  Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 37-year-old Christopher B. Molla of Anchor Avenue in Manahawkin, NJ, for DUI. Christopher Molla was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Exhibit Insurance card. The vehicle he was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 12:41 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle on Lacey Road near Arlington Avenue in the Barnegat Pines section of the Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 37-year-old Marcela Diemer of Williams Street in Forked River, NJ, for DUI.  Marcela Diemer was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Maintain Lane. The vehicle she was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Monday, May 2, 2016, at 7:33 p.m., Officer Anthony Sarno conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle on Lake Barnegat Drive near Deerhead Lake Drive in the North Barnegat Pines section of Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 21-year-old James C. Murphy of Forked River, NJ on an outstanding South Toms River Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $350. James Murphy was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 10:44 p.m., Officer Michael Verwey and Martin Julian were on patrol in the area of Stephanie Court in the Forked River Beach section of Forked River when they observed an individual whom they were aware had an outstanding arrest warrant. The suspect, 28-year-old Glenn A. Jones of Stephanie Court in Forked River, NJ, was placed under arrest on an outstanding Toms River Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $500. Glenn Jones was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and then turned over to the custody of the Toms River Township Police Department.

  • Auto Theft – On Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 6:57 a.m., Officer Darrell Nick responded to 1254 Lakeside Drive South in the Barnegat Pines section of Forked River in reference to a report of a stolen vehicle.  The vehicle owner reported that between 8:00 p.m. on April 29, 2016 and 6:55 a.m. on April 30, 2016, an unknown person or persons stole her green, 2007, Hyundai Sante Fe. The vehicle was parked in the front of the residence and was unlocked with the keys inside. The vehicle is valued at $1,000. The incident is under investigation.

  • Theft – On Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 1:12 p.m. Officer Scott Anderson responded to a Holmes Avenue North residence for a report of theft. The homeowner reported that between 10:00 a.m. on April 22, 2016 and 6:00 p.m. on April 26, 2016, an unknown person or persons stole a bicycle from in front of his residence. The bicycle is described as a boy’s, silver, blue, and black, 21-speed, Schwinn Mountain bike valued at $179.

  • Shoplifting and Trespassing (Arrest) – On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 4:01 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to Walmart, 560 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of shoplifting. The Loss Prevention employee reported that he observed a female remove a car air freshener and an auto marker from the displays and place them in a shopping cart. The female placed her coat over the merchandise and then proceeded to push the shopping cart out of the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 37-year-old Christina M. Manion of Silver Court in Bayville, NJ for shoplifting. Christina Manion was also found to be trespassing, as she had been previously given notice that she was no longer allowed at that store as a result of a prior incident. Christina Manion was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with Shoplifting and Defiant Trespass.

  • Theft – On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 1:12 p.m., Officer Scott Anderson responded to a residence on Laurel Boulevard in Lanoka Harbor for a report of a theft. The contractor reported that he is in the process of elevating the residence and between April 23, 2016 and April 26, 2016 an unknown person or persons and cut and removed copper piping from underneath the residence.  Approximately 100 feet of various size copper tubing was removed with a value of $300.  The damage to the residence as a result is estimated at $1,000.

  • Shoplifting & Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 1:10 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to Walmart, 560 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of shoplifting.  The Loss Prevention employee reported that he observed a male subject remove two fishing reels from their displays and conceal them down the front of his pants. The subject then reportedly attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 20-year-old Nicholas P. Hernandez of Beach Lane in Manahawkin, NJ for shoplifting. Nicholas Hernandez was also found to be in possession of Marijuana, a glass smoking pipe, and empty wax folds. Nicholas Hernandez was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Shoplifting, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

  • Burglary (Arrest) – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 4:36 p.m., Officer Patrick Watkins responded to 1006 Tampa Road in the Forked River Beach section of Forked River for a report of a Burglary. The victim reported that between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on April 23, 2016, an unknown person kicked in the side door of the residence and stole approximately $6,000 worth of items from inside. The stolen items included a Playstation 4, 2 Playstation controllers, 40 Playstation games, 80 DVD/Blue Ray’s, a gold necklace, and a Quartz watch. Detective Keith Pearce responded to the scene and initiated the follow-up investigation. The same house was previously burglarized on March 3, 2016, with a report that $3,500 in cash was stolen. The investigation by Detective Keith Pearce led to the arrest of 34-year-old Robert Goffio of 1205 Ocean Street in Forked River on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Robert Goffio, an associate of the victim, was charged after he was found in possession of specific pieces of jewelry stolen during the entries. Goffio was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of $20,000 bail.  His charges include two counts each of Burglary and Theft.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 12:55 a.m., Officer Anthony Sarno responded to Wawa, 444 Route 9 South in Forked River, for a report of Shoplifting. The store manager reported that a male subject reached over the counter and stole a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. The subject was described as a white male wearing shorts covered in paint and a dark hooded sweatshirt. The suspect had entered a silver sedan and fled the area. The manager reported that the suspect had been charged with stealing from the Wawa approximately one year prior. Investigation led to the identification of the suspect as, 34-year-old Robert D. Goffio of 1205 Ocean Street in Forked River, NJ. Officer Sarno and Officer Jason Lee responded to the area of the suspect’s residence and placed him under arrest for Shoplifting. The suspect was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, where he was processed and charged with Shoplifting.

  • Eluding (Arrest Warrant Issued) – On Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 5:13 p.m., Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas was on patrol when he attempted to stop a blue, 1998, Nissan Maxima on Lacey Road near Eagleswood Avenue in Forked River. The driver appeared to be pulling over, but then performed a quick u-turn and fled out West Lacey Road towards Bamber Lake Village. A license plate check revealed the vehicle had fictitious plates. Officer Tsarnas attempted to pull the vehicle over as a possible stolen vehicle, but the driver ignored the officer and continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed out on West Lacey Road. Officer Tsarnas discontinued the pursuit, then the driver inexplicably attempted to conduct another u-turn, at which time he struck a utility pole and damaged the driver side of the Nissan Maxima. The driver of the vehicle completed the u-turn and then drove back towards the populated part of the township at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Officer Tsarnas did not continue to pursue the vehicle due to the potential danger a pursuit may pose to the public as the vehicle sped toward the populated area of the township.

    Utilizing the information on a previous registrant gained from the fictitious plate displayed on the vehicle, Public Safety Telecommunicator Joanne Wujack and Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas were able to develop a possible suspect. The suspect was identified as 64-year-old Alan Fratello of 18 Kingfisher Way in Whiting, NJ. Officer Tsarnas went to the address with the assistance of the Manchester Township Police Department. The suspect vehicle was located behind an adjacent home and the plates had been removed. The vehicle was impounded as evidence. Alan Fratello could not be located. Officer Tsarnas returned prepared an arrest warrant for Alan Fratello with a 2nd Degree Eluding charge and bail was set at $100,000. Additional outstanding arrests warrants were located for Alan Fratello which included a criminal warrant out of Carlstadt, NJ for $2,025 and a traffic warrant out of Manalapan, NJ for $1,000. The suspect is still at large at the time of this release.   • Shoplifting – Use of a Minor (Arrest) – On Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 6:02 p.m., Officer Michael Verwey and Officer Martin Julian responded to Walmart, 560 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of a shoplifting suspect that reportedly fled the store. The loss prevention employees provided the officers with the license plate of the vehicle, which was registered to 23-year-old Michael Cammarota of 19 Azalea Court in Barnegat, NJ. Barnegat Township Police stopped the vehicle a short time later in their jurisdiction. The vehicle contained the suspect, Michael Cammarota, and his 10-year-old brother. Officer Verwey and Officer Julian responded to the motor vehicle stop in Barnegat. Investigation at the scene led to the discovery of stolen merchandise from Walmart and from Home Depot. Further investigation led to the arrest of Michael Cammarota for shoplifting. Michael Cammarota was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with 4th degree Shoplifting of $450 worth of merchandise from Walmart and 3rd degree using a Minor in the Commission of a Crime, as a result of utilizing the child as a lookout. Bail was set at $20,000 for that incident. Upon further investigation, Michael Cammarota was also later charged with 3rd degree Shoplifting of $566 worth of merchandise from Home Depot. Additional bail was set bail at $5,000 for the Home Depot incident. Michael Cammarota was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

  • Drug Possession – On Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10:48 p.m., Officer Andrew Slota responded Bamber Lake Park in reference to a report of loud yelling. As officer Slota patrolled the area, he located a suspicious vehicle parked on Dover Road near Smith Road. The vehicle was occupied by three juvenile males. When Officer Slota approached the vehicle he observed marijuana inside the vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the three 17-year-old males being taken into custody and transported to lacey Township Police Headquarters. One of the males admitted to possessing the marijuana and was charged with charged with Possession of 50 grams or Less of Marijuana. The driver was charged with possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. All three juveniles were turned over to the custody of their parents.

  • Driving While Suspended & Warrant Arrest – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 11:41 p.m., Officer Scott Keefe was on patrol when he stopped a vehicle on Route 9 near Station Drive in the Forked River section of the township as a result of the registered owner having a suspended driver’s license. Officer Keefe confirmed the identity of the driver, 23-year-old Quazmeir S. Overton of East Kennedy Boulevard in Lakewood, NJ, as that of the registered owner of the vehicle. Quazmeir Overton was issued a summons for Driving While Suspended. Further investigation led to the arrest of the passenger, 21-year-old Jadzere S. Mason of Lexington Boulevard in Barnegat, NJ, on an outstanding Barnegat Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $1,000. Jadzere Mason was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 1:46 p.m., Officer Patrick Watkins was conducting a traffic post on Newark Avenue near the intersection of Tappan Street, when he observed a gray Hyundai Sante Fe speeding. Officer Watkins conducted a motor vehicle stop of that vehicle on Lakeside Drive North near Baldwin Street. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 35-year-old Calogero C. Marchese of 194 Tiffany Lane in Willingboro, NJ, on an outstanding Howell Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $115. Calogero Marchese was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail. Calogero Marchese was issued summonses for Driving Whiles Suspended and Speeding.

  • Structure Fire – On Friday, April 22, 2016, at 3:50 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe was on patrol in the Lanoka Harbor section of the township when he observed visible flames coming from the rear yard of the residence of 758 Briar Road in Lanoka Harbor, NJ. Upon investigating, Officer Keefe discovered that the backyard and section of the residence of 759 Briar Road was engulfed in flames. Three residents were evacuated from inside the residence by the Lacey Township Police. Lanoka Harbor Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Preliminary investigation revealed that a resident, 19-year-old Robert J. Johnson had dumped ashes from a fire pit on dry brush upon conclusion of an evening in front of a fire pit. District Warden Scott Knauer of the NJ Forest Fire Service responded to the scene. The fire was determined to be accidental and non-suspicious.

  • Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 4:05 p.m., Officer Patrick Watkins responded to the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, 800 Route 9 South in Forked River, for a report of subject possessing Marijuana. The suspect, 29-year-old Bradley J. Ryan of North Market Street in Wilmington, DE, was scheduled for an interview at the Power Plant and upon attempting to enter the power plant property, his vehicle was subject to search by the Power Plant security staff. The security personnel located Marijuana, a glass smoking device, and a grinder inside the vehicle. Recognizing the items as contraband, the security personnel did not allow the suspect to access the power plant property. The suspect was detained until the arrival of the Lacey Township Police. The contraband was turned over to Officer Watkins and Bradley Ryan was placed under arrest. Bradley Ryan was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

  • Brush Fire – On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 6:06 p.m., the Lacey Township Police Department received a 911 call from a resident who reported a large amount of smoke in the distance coming from the wooded area behind his home on Clearview Street in the South Barnegat Pines section of Forked River. Upon checking the area, the Lacey Township Police, Forked River Fire Department, and the State Forest Fire Service located a brush fire in the woods southwest of Kennebec Road. Firefighters quickly contained the fire. No homes or businesses were threatened and no evacuations were needed. Forest Fire officials monitored the scene and burned out fuels in advance of the fire as a safety measure to reduce the likelihood of fire reigniting. The fire was ruled accidental by the State Forest Fire Service and was contained to a five-acre parcel of land.

  • Criminal Mischief – On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 11:29 a.m., Officer Jeffrey Slota responded to an Orlando Drive residence in the Forked River Beach section of Forked River in reference to a report of criminal mischief. The victim reported that between 3:00 p.m. on April 19, 2016 and 11:25 p.m. on April 20, 2016, an unknown person or persons broke the rear tailgate window of his blue Dodge Caravan while it was parked in the driveway of the residence. Officer Slota observed a large hole in the window and a 1-inch blue stone lying in the back cargo area of the vehicle. The damage is estimated at $300.

  • Criminal Mischief – On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 9:48 a.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to a Caldwell Avenue residence in the Barnegat Pines section of Forked River for a report of criminal mischief. The victim, who resides in Waretown, NJ, reported that between 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on April 19, 2016, an unknown person or persons punctured three of the tires of his white, 2003, Ford Explorer as it was parked in front of a residence on Caldwell Avenue. The victim believes that the punctures were caused by a screw driver type object due to the size of the holes. The damage is estimated at $200.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Monday, April 18, 2016, at 12:38 a.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to Walmart, 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of Shoplifting. The Loss Prevention Associate reported that he observed a female subject select 14 pieces of women’s clothing from their displays and then concealed the merchandise in a tote bag while on the sales floor. The female reportedly then exited the store without paying for the merchandise. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 41-year-old Laurie A. Carmer of Tuscarora Avenue in Barnegat, NJ, for Shoplifting $134.68 worth of merchandise. Laurie Carmer was also found to have three outstanding warrants: a Lacey Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $600; a Stafford Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $800; and a Barnegat Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $500. Laurie Carmer was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and charged with Shoplifting and Driving While Suspended. Bail was set at $2,500 for the Shoplifting incident. Laurie Carmer was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.
