Department News – Lacey Township Police Department – No Shave November Keep it Local 2020 – After Photo – December 3rd, 2020
The above photo depicts the "No-Shave November Keep it Local 2020" after-photo taken on the evening of Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020. Center is the family of Chief John Szafranski III. Each November, since 2016, the members of the Lacey Township Police Department have broken protocol for a good cause and this year was no different. During the first four years of participating in the national No-Shave November Campaign our joint efforts with the local Township Emergency Services, we successfully raised over $21,000. For 2020, we have used our "Keep it Local" campaign to raise money locally. This year's initiative started on November 1st, 2020, with the goal to help one of our own community leaders who recently passed away. All of our donations this year will be forwarded to the family of Chief John Szafranski III of the Lanoka Harbor Volunteer Fire Company. Chief Szafranski was a dedicated participant who privately fought his own courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer for the past several years. Department News – Lacey Township Police Department – Elf Officer Justice – December 2, 2020
Day 2: Today, Elf Off. Justice completed what each new Lacey Township Police Officer is required to do; Policy Review and Field Training. Elf. Off. Justice graduated an accelerated Field Training Program, which is typically many months long. It is of high importance that each newly sworn Lacey Township Police Officer receives the proper field training, to ensure a firm understanding and knowledge of our community, including, but not limited to, our township roads, parks, schools, neighborhoods and businesses. In addition, our new officers have to review all of the New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines, Ocean County Prosecutor Directives, and our own Lacey Township Police Department Policies and Procedures. Elf Off. Justice has been observed by his superiors to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, in addition to maintaining a professional appearance. He has properly satisfied the requirements to graduate the Field Training Program, and will now begin his assignments tomorrow.
Department News – Lacey Township Police Department – LTPD Welcomes New Officer – Elf Officer Justice -December 2020
As we enter the month of December, the Lacey Township Police Department welcomes our newest guest, "Elf Officer Justice.” In the coming days please visit our Lacey PD Facebook, for daily updates on Elf Justice, as he prepares for the arrival of Santa Claus. Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at homes in Lacey Township, tentatively, during the overnight hours of December 24th, and early morning hours of December 25th, 2020. During his preparations, Elf Justice will tour our police department, and join officers on patrol, in an effort to ensure a flawless and successful operation for Santa. Such documentation of his efforts will be valuable towards Santa’s future visits to Lacey Township. The members of the Lacey Township Police Department look forward to accommodating Elf Justice during his stay, and are pleased to assist Santa, as needed. We hope those in our community stay safe as they prepare for their respective holidays, and thank all of you for your continued support, during this difficult year.
Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – January 17th through January 23rd, 2020
Theft- On Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 2:24 p.m., Officer Michael Hutman responded to Kohls in reference to the theft of cash. The caller reported exiting the store and accidently leaving her wallet in her shopping cart. Once realizing the misplacement of the wallet she returned to customer service where someone had located and returned the wallet. The caller reported that the wallet contained approximately $600 cash which was missing when the wallet was returned to her. Arrest- On Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:01 p.m., Officers Randolph Plis and Brian Holt responded to the parking lot of 403 Route 9 in reference to an adult female sleeping inside a vehicle parked in the lot. Once arrived, officers found 34 year-old Jamie Urban asleep in the car with drug paraphernalia in her possession. Urban was placed under arrest and an amount of heroin was discovered. Urban was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. She was also issued a motor vehicle summons for possessing a controlled substance in a vehicle. Urban was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in accordance with bail reform. News Release: Lacey Township Police Department-Friday, January 17, 2020
On December 15, 2019, at 1741 hours, the Lacey Township Police Department responded to the area of Lacey Road and Holmes Avenue for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. The ensuing investigation revealed Mariam Manukyan, 67, Forked River, was attempting to cross Lacey Road from south to north when she was struck in the eastbound lane by a 2011 Jeep Patriot operated by David Winkle, 40, Forked River. M. Manukyan was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of serious bodily injury sustained in the crash. On the night of the crash David Winkle was arrested for DWI and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River where a Blood Draw Search Warrant was later executed. On Friday, January 17, 2020, David Winkle, 40, of Constitution Drive, Forked River, was arrested and charged with third degree Assault by Auto by operating his vehicle while under the influence, causing serious bodily injury to M. Manukyan. He was also charged with three counts of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; one count for each minor child present in David Winkle’s vehicle at the time of the crash. D. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – January 3rd through January 9th, 2020
Overdose- During a 20-hour period beginning Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 8:00 p.m., Lacey officers responded to three separate first aid calls that appear to be drug-related. During each call, the victims survived after officers or first aid members administered Narcan. Each incident appears to have been caused by heroin use. Arrest- On Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 8:40 p.m., Officer Anthony Sarno took custody of Monica Merry, 30, from Beachwood Police. Merry was arrested by Beachwood officers for an outstanding Lacey Township warrant. Merry was unable to post the $1,000 bail and was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility. Fraud- On Friday, January 3, 2020, at 2:48 a.m., Officer Scott Keefe met with a Toms River resident who reported a fraudulent transaction. The victim stated that he had received a text message from his credit card company that indicated a suspicious transaction. The transaction was completed earlier in the night at the Lanoka Harbor Walmart. Officer Keefe was able to determine that an unknown male suspect made two gift card purchases totaling $608 with the victim’s credit card information.
