Township News – Lacey Twp. Police Department – Schools Open Next Tuesday September 7, 2021 – Traffic/Pedestrian Safety
The Lacey Township Police Department would like to remind members of our community that the new school year is starting next Tuesday, September 7, 2021. You should expect an increased amount of traffic present in school zones during school times. You should also expect an increased amount of pedestrian traffic throughout our community as the students will be waiting at the bus stop or walking to school. The Lacey Township Police Department is asking that you take this into consideration while traveling throughout the community during school hours. During these times, the Lacey Township Police Department will be conducting additional traffic enforcement details in these areas. We wish all of the students, parents, and school staff a safe and wonderful school year.
Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – August 26th through September 2, 2021
Fraud- On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:42 a.m., Officer Michael Hutman met with an elderly resident reporting fraud. The victim complained that she was contacted through Facebook by a person she believed to be a congressional representative. The victim contributed $1,300 as a donation prior to realizing the scam. Arrest- On Friday, August 27, at 6:36 a.m., Officer Jason Lee was dispatched to the Second Lake for a male lighting fireworks. Officer Lee located James DeCarlo, 28, in the center of the lake utilizing a boat owned by the Township. DeCarlo was ultimately charged with Theft and released on his own recognizance. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers discovered that DeCarlo was responsible for damage in the area valued at $2,000. The damage included graffiti with the words “Kill Lacey Police.” Several hours later, DeCarlo was located at Wawa, 444 Route 9, where he had spray-painted the fence. While arresting DeCarlo, officers discovered an amount of heroin and drug paraphernalia in his possession. DeCarlo was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility after being charged with Criminal Mischief, Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Hypodermic, and Possession of Burglar Tools. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – August 19th through August 25th, 2021
Arrest- On Thursday, August 20, 2021, at 10:05 p.m., officers responded to the Lacey Mall in reference to a disturbance. Employees of Forked River Wine and Spirits reported that a customer kicked the front door and spit on the glass after being advised that the business was closed. Officers located the subject, Kevin Unruh, 24, walking on Nautilus and attempted to speak with him. Kevin reportedly reached inside the patrol car slapping the computer screen. After exiting their vehicles, one officer was struck in the face by Unruh while another was bit in the hand. Unruh was arrested and placed in the rear of a patrol where he kicked out the rear window. Unruh was charged with Aggravated Assault on Police, Criminal Mischief, Terroristic Threats, and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility without bail. DWI- On Friday, August 21, 2021, at 2:14 a.m., Officers Scott Keefe and Dallas Gant responded to a motor vehicle accident on Oxford Road. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – January 20 through January 27, 2022
Motor Vehicle Crash/Warrant Arrest On Thursday January 20, 2022, at 1651 hours Officer Daniel Biel responded to Lanoka Farms for a report of a motor vehicle crash. During the investigation it was discovered one of the drivers, 34 year-old Justin Scialfa, had an active warrant for his arrest. He was place under arrest and later transported to Ocean County Jail. DWI Arrest On Friday, January 21, 2022 at 1348 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Route 9 and Haines Street for a report of a possible intoxicated driver. The vehicle was located near the intersection of Lacey Road and Newark Avenue, where a motor vehicle stop was conducted. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 30 year-old Gregory Zambelli for DWI. Gregory was transported to police headquarters where he was processed. Through investigation Gregory was also found to be under the influence of CDS. He was charged on a complaint summons for Use/Being Under the Influence of CDS. He was also charged for DWI and Reckless driving. He was released in accordance with John’s Law. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – January 13 through January 20, 2022
Burglary On Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 1039 hours Ptl. Michael Hein responded to 200 block of Fernwood Lane for a report of a Burglary to a vehicle. Upon arrival Officer Hein met with the vehicle owner, who indicated her unsecured vehicle was entered sometime during the nighttime hours. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle. A black pair of women’s size 8 Timberland boots, valued at $100, was found to be missing from the front passenger seat. Officer Hein canvassed the area and found no additional victims. DWI On Friday, January 14, 2022, at 18:33 hours, multiple officers, responded to the area of Lacey Road and Arlington Avenue, for a report of a driver who was possibly intoxicated. The caller advised dispatch that a vehicle was swerving all over the road and struck a garbage can. Officer Keefe conducted a motor vehicle stop on the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Lacey Road and Lake Barnegat Drive. Investigation at the scene revealed the driver, Victor M. Narvaez (Age 32), of Bayville, was driving while intoxicated. Victor was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Unlicensed Driver and Possession of an Open Container in a Motor Vehicle and released. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – January 6 through January 13, 2022
Arrest- On Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 2:34 p.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to Home Depot in reference to a shoplifter who fled in a vehicle. The vehicle was later located on Harzold Street and the driver was placed under arrest. Erin Royer, 38, was charged with Shoplifting and found to have two outstanding warrants issued by the Toms River and Seaside Heights Municipal Courts. She was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in accordance with bail reform. DWI- On Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 6:36 p.m., several officers were dispatched to the intersection of Route 9 and Taylor Lane for a hit and run accident. Investigation revealed that a vehicle attempted to proceed south on Route 9 from Taylor Lane turning to wide and collided with a northbound vehicle. The responsible vehicle fled turning onto Beach Boulevard where Officer Elton Copes was able to locate it. The driver, Kelsey Fisher, was arrested after being deemed under the influence. She was charged with DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Report an Accident.
