On Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 12:11 p.m., officers from the Lacey Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a dirt-bike, which occurred off-road, approximately 1.5 miles south of the intersection Lacey Road and Carriage Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, 43-year-old Jose Perez, of Queens, New York, was traveling south along a trail, when he failed to negotiate a turn. As a result, he lost control of the dirt bike and was thrown from it.
Mr. Perez sustained significant spinal and head injury as a result of the crash and was transported by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Lacey Township EMS, MONOC Paramedics as well as Forked River and Bamber Lakes Fire Departments also responded to the scene. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit also responded to assist in the investigation.
