It is with deep regret that the Lacey Township Police Department announces the loss of former Lacey Township Police Officer David W. Supsie, Badge #69.  David Supsie passed away on June 12, 2021, after a courageous battle with Cancer.

David Supsie was a Lacey Township Native, and attended both Lacey Township and Toms River South High Schools, graduating in 1985.  An avid athlete; David Supsie excelled in both high school football and baseball prior to attending Brookdale Community College, where he played a key role towards reaching the Junior World Series.  As a well-respected pitcher at the collegiate level, his passion and talent ultimately earned a baseball scholarship for the University of New Orleans.

David Supsie began his Law Enforcement career with the New Jersey Department of Corrections, serving as a Corrections Officer at Trenton State Prison.  On June 6, 1999, he joined the ranks of the Lacey Township Police Department, in the capacity of Police Officer, where he served until June of 2009.  During his 10 year career with LTPD, he was an assigned Field Training Officer (FTO). The role of an FTO is pivotal towards the hiring and teaching of new officers.  In 2001, during the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks, David Supsie joined Officers Richard Barbosa #43 (Ret.), and Jeffrey Slota #73, as they responded to Ground Zero to assist the many first responders in their search and recovery efforts.

David Supsie will be remembered by his peers and superiors for having, “The gift of gab,” as he had the ability to speak to, and/or befriend, nearly anyone.  His humor, which has provided us all with many memories and stories, will continue to bring us laughter long after his untimely passing.  During the past two years of David Supsie’s battle with cancer, he has exemplified living life to its fullest, despite the odds counted against him.  We admire him for his courage, and thank him for his 10 years of service to the residents of Lacey Township as a police officer.

Our sincere condolences remain with the Supsie Family, and his many friends, during this difficult time.
