- Theft from Residence – On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at 4:33 p.m., Officer Andrew Slota responded to Police Headquarters for a theft report. The victim reported that in the end of September 2017, she noticed property belonging to her was missing from her residence. The stolen items include a rare coin collection, rare 1930s-era 10-dollar bills, and a gold heart charm with an estimated total value of $300. There were no signs of forced entry. The incident remains under investigation.
- Criminal Mischief (Auto) – On Monday, October 2, 2017, at 5:05 p.m., Officer Patrick Watkins responded to the 500 block of Baldwin Street in Forked River for a report of damage to a vehicle. The complainant reported that between September 29th, 2017 and October 2nd, 2017, an unknown person or persons keyed two vehicles that were parked in the street in front of their residence. The damage to both vehicles is estimated at $500 each.
- Fire – On Monday, October 2, 2017, at 3:12 p.m., Officer Evan Androcy responded to the 100 block of Caldwell Avenue in Forked River for a report of a fire coming from the rear of the residence. The Forked River Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. A cigarette in a flower pot was deemed to be the cause of the fire.
- Criminal Mischief (Business) – On Monday, October 2, 2017, at 8:22 a.m., Officer Evan Androcy responded to the 600 block of Challenger Way in Forked River for a report of criminal mischief. The complainant reported that between the hours of 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1st, 2017, and 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2nd, 2017, an unknown person or persons damaged two deadbolt locks. The damage is estimated at $120.
- Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Crash, Warrant Arrest (Multiple) and Obstructing – On Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 7:32 p.m., Officer Jesse Dalziel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Laurel Boulevard and Briar Road in Lanoka Harbor. One of the drivers, identified as 22-year-old Cole A. Gonnella, of Laurel Boulevard in Lanoka Harbor, left the scene on foot and entered a nearby residence. The investigation led to the arrest of Cole A. Gonnella on three (3) outstanding warrants. Warrant number one (1) was issued from the Stafford Township Municipal Court in the bail amount of $1500, warrant number two (2) was issued from the Lacey Township Municipal Court in the bail amount of $500, and warrant number three (3) was issued from the Little Egg Harbor Township Municipal Court in the bail amount of $858. Cole A. Gonnella was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. He was charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law. In addition, he received traffic summonses for Driving with a Suspended License, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash, Failure to Report a Motor Vehicle Crash, and Failure to Exhibit Documents. He was later lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
- DUI Arrest – On Tuesday, October 1, 2017, at 5:50 p.m., Officers Adam Ewart and Andrew Slota responded to the Captain’s Inn, located at 304 E. Lacey Road in Forked River, for a disturbance outside. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 57-year-old Jeffrey J. Nadler of Marquis Street in Toms River, NJ, for DUI. He was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. Jeffrey J. Nadler was released after receiving traffic summonses for DUI, Refusal to Provide Breath Samples, and Reckless Driving.
- Vehicle Fire and Trespassing – On Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 10:55 p.m., Officers Julie Barcalow and Scott Keefe responded to Lacey Materials, located at 5001 Lacey Road in Forked River, for a report of a vehicle on fire. The driver of the vehicle, 56-year-old Gregory E. Doscher, of Beverly Drive in Barnegat, NJ, reported that he was driving his vehicle on Lacey Materials property when he noticed his vehicle was on fire. The Forked River Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze. Gregory E. Doscher was issued a Special Form of Complaint and Summons for Trespassing on Private Property.
- Eluding Police and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun – On Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 8:21 p.m., Officer Jason Lee was patrolling Lakeside Drive South and Bullard Avenue in Forked River when he observed a suspicious quad (ATV) stopped in the roadway. The operator was not wearing a helmet, nor did he have any lights. Officer Lee attempted to contact the operator. The quad then accelerated at a high rate of speed toward Bullard Avenue and after a brief pursuit, stopped on Olds Street. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 32-year-old William C. Edwards, of William Street in Forked River for Eluding. He was also found to be in possession of a handgun, which he had in his waistband. Sergeant Robert Surtees, along with Officers Julie Barcalow and Scott Keefe arrived on scene to assist. William C. Edwards was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. He was charged on a Criminal Warrant with Eluding and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. In addition, he received traffic summonses for Lamps Required, Helmet Required, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Improper Passing. He was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility to await a bail hearing. The Quad was impounded.
- Shoplifting – On Friday, September 29, 2017, at 5:02 p.m., Officers Jason Lee and Julie Barcalow responded to the Walmart, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a female shoplifter who fled the store. A short time later the shoplifter was located near Spring Oak Assisted Living, which is directly across the street from Walmart. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 21-year-old Alyssa M. Hickey, of 5th Avenue in Toms River, New Jersey, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $73.38. She was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. Alyssa M. Hickey was released after receiving a criminal summons for Shoplifting.
- Warrant Arrest – On Friday, September 29, 2017, at 7:21 a.m., Officer John D. Simonson responded to the Walmart parking lot, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a report of a male possibly needed medical attention. Officer Simonson met with 40-year-old Michael J. Gannon of Phelps Avenue in Bayville, NJ. He was found to have an outstanding Ocean County Sheriff’s Department warrant in the amount of $38,896. He was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. Michael J. Gannon was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
