*** International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31st, 2017 ***
International Overdose Awareness Day is scheduled for Thursday, August 31st, 2017. Our local overdose awareness event, hosted by Young People in Recovery of Ocean County, will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the Lacey United Methodist Church, located at 203 Lacey Road in Forked River. This event is one of many being held nationally, and in New Jersey it is provided by Fed Up, a local coalition working to stop the opioid epidemic . The nationwide event is designed to bring education and more awareness to the opioid epidemic, along with remembering those we lost.
Featured speakers for our local event include but are not limited to Lacey Police Chief Michael C. DiBella and John Brogan from Lifeline Family Recovery Group, along with speakers from treatment centers, recovery groups, and local clergy. Organizations attending include but are not limited to Hope Sheds Light, Young People in Recovery of Ocean County, Recovery Centers of America and the DART Prevention Coalition.
The event will also feature a candle light vigil for all those lost to heroin and other opioid addictions.
This event is free and open to the public.
