  • DUI and Drug Possession (Arrest) – On Friday, March 4, 2016, at 12:08 p.m., Officer Darrell Nick and Officer Martin Julian responded to the parking lot of Accredited Dermatology, 540 Lacey Road in Forked River, for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car. Upon arrival, the driver of the vehicle was semi-responsive and drug paraphernalia was observed inside the vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 25-year-old Landon S. Ruutikainen of Abbey Court in Forked River, for DUI, Possession of CDS, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Landon Ruutikainen was transported to police headquarters and processed. He received traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. In addition, he received criminal summonses for Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The vehicle he was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • DUI Arrest from Hit and Run Traffic Accident – On Friday, March 4, 2016, at 11:56 a.m., Officer Evan Androcy responded to the parking lot of Wendy’s, 301 Route 9 North in Forked River, NJ, for a report of a hit and run traffic accident. The callers reported that a blue vehicle driven by a female had just struck two cars in the parking lot and fled the scene. As Officer Androcy was responding to the call, another call was received by Lacey Township Police from 31-year-old Michelle Peterson of Frost Avenue in East Brunswick, NJ, who reported that someone had struck her vehicle in the parking lot of Linda’s Pizza, 136 Route 9 South in Forked River, NJ. Investigation at the scenes indicated that Michelle Peterson had struck the vehicles in the parking lot of Wendy’s and then fled to Linda’s Pizza, where she made a false report to police. Michelle Peterson was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters and processed. She was released after receiving a criminal summons for Making False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorities, and Creating a False Public Alarm. In addition she received traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Report an Accident. The vehicle she was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 6:10 p.m., Officers Elton Copes and Charles May responded to the parking lot of Wawa, 701 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor for a report of a female slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle. The responding officers were able to wake her up and observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 31-year-old Nikki L. Picht of Avon Court in Toms River, NJ, for Possession of CDS and for DUI. Nikki Picht was transported to police headquarters and processed. She received traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, and Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle. In addition Nikki Picht received a criminal summons for Possession of Heroin, Possession of Suboxone (w/o a prescription), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The vehicle she was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 2:01 a.m., Officer Dimitri Tsarnas conducted a traffic stop on Lakeside Drive South near Claire Road in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 20-year-old Kelsey A. Fisher of Central Lake Drive in Forked River, for DUI. Kelsey Fisher was transported to police headquarters and processed. Kelsey Fisher was released after receiving traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, and Speeding. In addition, she was charged on a complaint-summons with Underage Consumption of Alcohol in a Private Residence. The vehicle she was driving was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • DUI (Arrest) – On Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 10:05 p.m., Officer Christopher Meyler responded to the 1100 block of Laurel Boulevard in Lanoka Harbor for a report of a dispute that had occurred at the Wawa, 701 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor. The on-scene investigation at Wawa revealed that one of the subjects involved drove to the Laurel Boulevard residence. Investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Michael J. Angelo of Windward Drive in Forked River, for DUI. Michael Angelo was transported to police headquarters and processed. He was released after receiving traffic summonses for DUI, Reckless Driving, and Driving While Suspended. The vehicle he was operating was impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 12:08 a.m., Officer Christopher Meyler conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of PNC Bank, located at 702 Lacey Road in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of the driver, 29-year-old Nicholas A. Thorne of Lakewood Road in Toms River on an outstanding warrant. The warrant was issued by the Toms River Township Municipal Court in the amount of $150. Nicholas Thorne was transported to police headquarters and processed. He was released after posting full bail.

  • Drug Possession and Warrant (Arrest) – On Monday, March 7, 2016, at 8:45 p.m., Officer Michael Verwey was patrolling the Rite Aid parking lot, located at 101 Route 9 South in Forked River when he observed a suspicious person walking from the Lacey Library to the Rite Aid. After speaking with the initial subject, Officer Verwey responded to the Lacey Library where he located two additional suspicious persons. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 28-year-old Glenn A. Jones, Jr., of Stephanie Court in Forked River on an outstanding warrant. The warrant was issued by the Woodland Township Municipal Court in the amount of $1,150. Glenn Jones was found to be in possession of Marijuana. Glen Jones, Jr., was charged on a complaint summons with Possession of Marijuana. He was later turned over to the custody of the New Jersey State Police in default of the bail on the $1,150 Woodland Township Municipal Court Warrant.

  • Shoplifting, Trespassing, and Warrant (Arrest) – On Monday, March 7, 2016, at 2:47 p.m., officers responded to Walmart, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for an adult male shoplifter. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 23-year-old Tyler A. Cook of Woodlark Road in Toms River, for shoplifting merchandise valued at $99.98. In addition, four (4) outstanding warrants for his arrest were located. Warrant number one (1) was issued from the Brick Township Municipal Court in the amount of $1,000, and warrant number two (2) was issued by the Brick Township Municipal Court in the amount of $39. Warrant number three (3) was issued by the Toms River Township Municipal Court in the amount of $500, and warrant number four (4) was issued by the Lakehurst Boro Municipal Court in the amount of $300. Tyler Cook was transported to police headquarters and processed. He was charged with one count of Shoplifting from Walmart with bail set at $1,000. In addition he was charged on a summons with Defiant Trespassing. Tyler Cook was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of bail.

  • Shoplifting (Arrest) – On Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 6:11 p.m., Officers Evan Androcy and Dimitri Tsarnas were dispatched to the Walmart, located at 580 Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor, for a female shoplifter who fled in a vehicle. The area was checked for the shoplifter with negative results. Officer Androcy responded to Walmart and met with Loss Prevention. Officer Androcy began an investigation and identified a suspect. On Monday, March 7, 2016, Officer Androcy completed his investigation. Officer Androcy met with 44-year old Tiffany M. DeTore of Green Street in Tuckerton, NJ at police headquarters. She was charged with shoplifting merchandise valued at $49.60 from Walmart and processed. Tiffany DeTore was released after receiving a criminal summons for shoplifting.

  • Traffic Accident – On Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 10:25 a.m., Special Officer Edgaras Lenkauskas was on patrol when he observed that a utility pole had been struck by a vehicle on Jones Road near Bobwhite Court in Forked River. The 17-year-old driver from Forked River reported that he became distracted while using the car radio and accidentally left the roadway causing him to strike the pole. No injuries were reported. The driver received a summons for careless driving. The roadway needed to be closed for several hours due to the damaged utility pole.

  • Theft and Criminal Mischief (Auto) – On Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 6:09 a.m., Officers Julian Martin and Darrell Nick responded to the 1500 block of Beach Boulevard in Forked River, for a theft. The victim reported that between 8:00 p.m. on February 28, 2016, and 7:00 a.m. on February 29, 2016, an unknown person or persons stole his chrome gas tank cover valued at $300 that was on his vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the theft.

  • Burglary and Terroristic Threats (Business) – On Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10:01 p.m., officers from the Lacey Township Police Department responded to the New China Café, located at 336 Lacey Road in Forked River, for a report of a possible armed robbery. It was reported that the suspect exited the rear door of the restaurant and was last observed behind the plaza. Officers searched the area at which point Sergeant Paul Sullivan located the suspect, 50-year-old James Darby of 309 Briggs Avenue North, on Briggs Avenue North adjacent to the plaza. Upon further investigation, 50-year-old James Darby was arrested without incident. The investigation at the scene quickly revealed that the incident did not involve a robbery, but instead involved a neighborhood dispute as the suspect lives immediately behind the New China Café. The reported incident involved New China Café employees taking out the garbage behind the building as they were preparing for the restaurant to close for the night when they were reportedly confronted by James Darby. The employees reportedly fled into the rear of the restaurant when confronted by James Darby who appeared to be intoxicated and was reportedly behaving in a threatening manner. James Darby allegedly continued his aggressive behavior and forced his way into the restaurant through the rear door where he reportedly continued his aggressive behavior toward the employees. While inside, the suspect reportedly retrieved an item from his pocket, believed to be a black flashlight he had in his possession, and pointed it in the direction of a store employee. The suspect then reportedly fled the premises through the rear door. It was determined that no robbery occurred nor was any robbery attempted, but instead, the incident involved a dispute between James Darby and employees of the restaurant. James Darby was charged with Burglary and Terroristic Threats. His bail was set at $20,000. James Darby was lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of the bail.

  • Burglary and Theft (Residence) – On Friday, March 4, 2016, at 5:06 p.m., Officer Evan Androcy responded to the 300 block of Normandie Drive in Forked River for a report of a theft. The victim reported that an unknown person or persons entered the crawlspace of the residence between February 22, 2016 and February 26, 2016 and removed all of the existing copper pipe plumbing. The damage and theft is estimated at $2,500. The residence had been vacant at the time of the theft; however, it has since been purchased.

  • Burglary and Theft (Residence) – On Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 4:13 p.m., Officer Noah Schaffer and Officer Adam Ewart responded to the 1000 block of Tampa Road in Forked River for a report of a burglary. The homeowners reported that upon returning home around 4:00 p.m. on March 3, 2016, they discovered that an unknown person or persons had made entry into the home while they were out. Lacey Detective Alan Abrecht responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 9:37 p.m., Officer George Resetar conducted a traffic stop on Route 9 South near Station Drive in Forked River. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of a passenger, identified as 50-year-old Douglas G. Kern of Norwood Street in Forked River, on an outstanding Lacey Township Municipal Court warrant in the amount of $350. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. Douglas Kern was later lodged in the Ocean County Correctional Facility in default of bail.

  • Warrant Arrest – On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 9:43 p.m., Officers John McKee and George Resetar responded to the 200 block of Harris Road in Forked River, for a check the well-being call. While at the scene, officers discovered that one of the residents, identified as 37-year-old Ryan A. Burlew, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued by the Toms River Township Municipal Court in the amount of $350. Ryan A. Burlew was arrested on the warrant and transported to police headquarters. He was processed and released after posting bail.

  • Drug Possession and Burglary (Arrest) – On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 10:05 a.m., Officers Michael Hein and Jeffrey Slota responded to the 1400 block of Bullard Avenue in Forked River to assist a real estate agent in checking a vacant residence that they had legally acquired as a result of a foreclosure. While checking the residence officers located 26-year-old Christopher C. Cox within an upstairs bedroom. Officers also observed several wax-folds of heroin, several empty wax-folds, and syringes. Christopher Cox was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged on a warrant with Burglary and Possession of Heroin. Bail was set in the amount of $25,000. In addition, Christopher Cox was charged with Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. He was later lodged in the Ocean County Correctional facility in default of bail.
