Department News – Lacey Township Police Department – Update – Firearms ID Cards and Handgun Purchase Permits – April 3rd, 2020
*** UPDATE ****** Firearms Identification Card Applications and Handgun Purchase Permits *** UPDATE *** During the past couple of weeks, the Lacey Township Police Department has experienced a significant increase in the number of firearms identification cards and handgun purchase permit applications. We are working hard to process these requests in a timely manner for our residents. The Lacey Township Police Department will continue to accept new firearms applications and process them with the understanding that delays will be experienced due to the COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. We have received guidance from the New Jersey State Police Firearms Unit and have been informed that due to the volume of applications and the COVID-19 response, there may be delays with the 212A background check. Once all of the required application background checks are completed, applicants will receive a phone call from our records bureau staff. Applicants will be advised of the process to obtain their firearms identification cards and handgun purchase permits. The process to pickup up a firearms identification card and/or handgun purchase permit(s) may be slightly different then experienced in the past based upon guidance received from the New Jersey State Police Firearms Unit. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – March 26th through April 2, 2020
Theft- On Thursday, March 26, 2020, at 3:24 p.m., Officer Jeffrey Slota took a theft report from a Forked River resident. The victim reported that after UPS delivered a package, it was stolen from her front porch prior to her retrieving it. The package was valued at $975. Theft- On Friday, March 27, 2020, at 12:10 p.m., Officer Matthew D’Antonio and Michael Verwey responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Through a review of surveillance video and transaction receipts, Loss Prevention confirmed that a customer did not scan an amount of items while in the self-checkout line. The surveillance video was used to identify the actor as Kristen Hansen, 37, of Lanoka Harbor. Hansen was charged with Shoplifting and served with the complaint at her residence. The theft was valued at $297.08. Fraud- On Friday, March 27, 2020, at 7:38 p.m., Officer Brian Holt took a report of a fraudulent credit charge from a Forked River resident. The victim reported that while reviewing a credit card statement, she noticed a $196.89 charge at Walmart that she did not make. Car Burglary – On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 6:19 a.m., Officer Noah Schaffer responded to the 700 block of Amherst Road in Lanoka Harbor for a vehicle burglary. The victim’s vehicle was locked and parked in her driveway. Sometime between 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, an unknown person(s) smashed the passenger side widow and stole items from within. The cost to repair the window is estimated at $500. The value of the stolen property is over $100. Car Burglary – On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 5:50 a.m., Officer Noah Schaffer responded to the 600 block of Colgate Avenue in Lanoka Harbor for a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, and unknown person(s) smashed the front passenger side window and the rear passenger side window and stole items from within. The vehicle was locked and parked in the driveway of his residence. The damage to the vehicle is estimated at $1000. The estimated value of the stolen property is over $600. Criminal Mischief (School Property) — On Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 11:23 a.m., Officer Andrew Slota responded to Lacey Township Middle School for a report of Criminal Mischief. The victim reported that the vehicle was vandalized while parked on school property. The victim reported the driver’s side door was scratched approximately six inches in length. The victim reported that the door contained no scratches on it in the morning and noticed the scratch on the door at the end of the day. The damage is estimated at $500.00. CDS Arrest — On Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 9:14 a.m., Officer Michael Hein responded to the 7-11 on Route 9 North in Lanoka Harbor for a suspicious vehicle. Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 23-year-old Dominic C. Mullin of Bay Parkway, Waretown, NJ, for CDS. Dominic Mullin was transported to police headquarters and processed. He was released after receiving a criminal summons for possession of CDS. Dominic Mullin also received a motor vehicle summons for CDS in Motor Vehicle. Weekly Police Blotter – Lacey Township Police Department – September 24, 2018 through October 4th, 2018
•Theft – On Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 10:40 a.m., Officer Michael Hutman responded to police headquarters to take a report of theft of a stolen bicycle. The victim reported that at an unknown date and time, a black beach cruiser with gray pin striping was stolen from the backyard shed of her Jones Road residence in Forked River. The bicycle was last seen on September 9, 2018. The value of the beach cruiser is $800. •Theft – On Tuesday, October 2, 1018, at 3:29 p.m., Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas responded to police headquarters to take a report of theft. The victim reported that medication and credit cards were taken from her purse while located inside her residence. She believes the theft occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018. The total amount of the theft is estimated at $17. •Theft – On Monday, October 1, 2018, at 10:25 a.m., Officer Michael Hutman responded to Lacey Shell on Lacey Road in Forked River for a report of theft of gas.
