The above photos depict Lacey Township Police Officers John McKee and Darrell Nick being promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant during the February 27th, 2020 Township Meeting.

The Lacey Township Police Department is proud to announce the promotions of two veteran police officers. On the evening of Thursday, February 27th, 2020, during the Township meeting, Officers John McKee and Darrell Nick were  promoted to the rank of Sergeant. These two promotions replace the recent retirements of command level officers.

Sergeant John McKee has been a resident of Lacey Township for the last 20 years. He graduated from Leonia High School in 1986 and attended Stockton University where he studied Business Administration. Sergeant McKee was hired by the Lacey Township Police Department in March 2003 and attended the Burlington County Police Academy where he ranked number one in his class in academics. Sergeant McKee has been assigned to the Patrol Division for the past 17 years and has received various commendations throughout his career. Sergeant McKee ranked number one (out of approximately 950 officers who tested) in the State of New Jersey on last year’s New Jersey Civil Service Sergeant promotional list.  In Sergeant McKee’s own words, his greatest accomplishment and what brings joy to his life are his three children, Brittany, Alexa, and Jack. Sergeant McKee has been assigned as a patrol squad supervisor.

Sergeant Darrell Nick grew up in Lacey Township, graduating from Lacey Township High School in 1997. He attended Monmouth University and in 2001 received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Sergeant Nick played college football for all four years, and achieved the honor of All American his senior year. Further, he tried out for the NFL after his senior year. Sergeant Nick was hired as a police officer by the Lacey Township Police Department in March 2003 and attended the Burlington County Police Academy. He has been assigned to the Patrol Division for the past 17 years, 11 as a Field Training Officer (FTO). Sergeant Nick has trained 10 Lacey Township Police Officers in the Field Training program. He has received various commendations throughout his career. Sergeant Nick ranked number two (out of approximately 950 officers who tested) in the State of New Jersey on last year’s New Jersey Civil Service Sergeant promotional list. He has been married to his wife Denise for the past 10 years.

As listed above, Sergeants McKee and Nick came out numbers 1 and 2 in the State of New Jersey on the New Jersey Civil Service Sergeant Promotional Exam last year. Like all of our officers, they are committed and dedicated to protecting the residents and visitors of Lacey Township and we could not be more proud of them. I would also like to thank their families who supported both of these officers throughout their careers and especially the testing process.

Congratulations on your promotions, well deserved!!

I would like to thank my entire staff, Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh, Mayor Kennis and all the members of the Lacey Township Committee for supporting these two Sergeant promotions.
